Grant Writer Trainee
Caregivers was founded in 1988 by a group of community members who saw a need for volunteer services to supplement services that were unaffordable or unavailable locally. The program presently includes 375 volunteers who serve 283 clients. Caregivers also operates the Loaner’s Closet for Durable Medical Equipment, founded in 2002, which provides free durable medical equipment loans to the public and accepts gently-used donations.
Non-profit volunteer caregiving group operating in seven towns in the Greater Derry Area. Volunteers are trained to work in their home communities with the elderly and disabled, chronically or temporarily ill. Tasks include light chores, shopping, transportation, friendly visiting, light respite, yard work and home repair. All services are free of charge. Currently, the program manages 450 active volunteers who assist more than 350 seniors.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Grant Writer will work with our long-time, retiring grant writer for 3-6 months to take over responsibility for maintaining our well-established grant fundraising program. This individual will be responsible for filing reapplications and reports to current funding partners, and researching and identifying potential new funders. The Grant Writer will report to the Executive Director. This part-time position for up to 18 hours/week can be in-office or hybrid to allow for flexible scheduling.

• Work independently. QUALIFICATIONS GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must have adequate transportation and a valid driver’s license.
• Must meet CCGD’s background screening requirements.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to write clearly and compellingly using good grammar and spelling.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage a calendar.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Outlook, Powerpoint and Excel.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Associate degree or higher.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTS
The employee must be able to sit, stand for extended periods of time, bend, stoop and lift up to 25 lbs. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Regular interruptions are common. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the duties. This position is a part-time hourly position. Work will be done on-site when training with current retiring grant writer but remote shifts are possible when working independently.
BENEFITS & WAGES $22 - $25 an hour. Paid vacation and Sick. Phone allowance. 12 Federal Paid Holidays.
FLSA & EMPLOYMENT STATUS Non-Exempt / Part-time / Approximately 18 hours per week
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain an established grant writing program by submitting timely reapplications and reports to existing funders; help to support current funder relationships by writing thank yous and attending meetings with funders as required ( these may be in the evening );
• Research and identify sources for new potential funders, including private trusts and foundations, corporate foundations, community foundations, and federal state and local funding sources;
• Manage a grants calendar to meet both application and reporting deadlines and manage workflow; Keep Executive Director and Board apprised of the status of all active and potential applications;
• With input from the Executive Director, prepare clear and compelling cover letters and proposal narratives for new and ongoing grants;
• Use key data points (units/hours/miles/clients/volunteers, etc.) from program databases to measure program and organization impact for use in grants, reports, annual fundraising efforts and public relations outreach.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date files for all current and past grant funders;
