Blue Heron School Director
Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is a non-profit environmental education organization founded in 1966. With a mission to advance understanding of ecology by exploring New Hampshire’s natural world, this respected community leader, located in Holderness, New Hampshire has brought visitors nearer to nature since 1966. Open meadows, mature forests, and marsh boardwalks connect interactive natural history exhibits where native animals reside: black bears, mountain lions, foxes, river otters, bobcats, and more.
New Hampshire is famous for its picturesque lakes and mountains, and Squam Lake is a gem among many. Our Lake Cruise tours provide a scenic and comfortable viewpoint of its amazingly clear water, rocky shores, celebrated islands, historic homes, scenic mountain views, and remarkable wildlife.
Blue Heron School is a Montessori program for preschool and kindergarteners, which incorporates the nature preschool philosophy and includes significant time outdoors. It is a part of the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness NH (nhnature.org). The mission of the Science Center is to advance understanding of ecology by exploring New Hampshire’s natural world. Through spectacular live animal exhibits, natural science education programs, an informal public garden, and lake cruises, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center has brought people nearer to nature since 1966.
Summary of Position:
The Blue Heron School Director is responsible for establishing and maintaining the core values of the program with the staff. They manage school enrollment and communications with families, other teachers, programs, and visitors. They manage compliance with New Hampshire Bureau of Child Care Licensing rules. They hire, manage and support the staff in their roles in the classroom and their interactions with the children and the environment.
Full range of benefits including paid vacation, personal, and sick time, health insurance (SLNSC covers 80% of the premiums,) SLNSC sponsored short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, and EAP (Employee Assistance Plan). A 403b retirement plan (5% match after two years), and a free 8-person membership to the Science Center.
