Peer Support Specialist

Peer Support Specialist

Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., one of the largest providers of community-based behavioral health services in New Hampshire, is seeking a person with lived experience with mental illness to work 2nd shift, in conjunction with our Mobile Crisis Team, providing office and community-based interventions for people experiencing a mental health crisis.

As a Peer Support Specialist, you will be working with clinicians in conducting initial assessments and coordinating follow-up care, and providing specific types of recovery-oriented support to individuals in crisis and their families. If you have personal, lived experience with mental illness, can work independently and as part of a team, and have sensitivity to people of diverse backgrounds and cultures, this is a great opportunity to apply all that you have learned to enhance your own independence while helping others.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the world, it is our responsibility as healthcare providers to help keep our staff, clients and communities safe.  At Riverbend, we have implemented processes and precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 as well as a mandatory vaccination policy.  Exceptions can be applied for under medical or religious reasons.  Additionally, weekly testing will be required for anyone who is in progress of the vaccine series or individuals with approved exceptions.

Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, relevant degree preferred
  • Lived experience with mental illness, and the ability to meet the essential requirements of the job is required.
  • Ability to sensitively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures is required.
  • A valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and auto insurance is preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • Help clients and families understand the systems of care available to them in the community
  • Provide clients with support and advocacy in accessing the care they need
  • Work independently and as part of a professional clinical team
  • Partner with a range of treatment providers and agencies
