Harbor Care, formerly known as Harbor Homes and the Partnership for Successful Living affiliates, is an innovative health and human services non-profit organization that provides housing, healthcare, home health, behavioral health, addiction treatment, and more in collaboration with many community partners.  Harbor Care is the new shared name of Harbor Homes, Keystone Hall, Healthy at Home, the Harbor Care Health and Wellness Center, and the Southern NH HIV/AIDS Task Force. We offer many programs specifically focused on our Military Veteran and homeless populations.  Harbor Care integrates stable housing with vital supports such as: primary, dental, and mental health care, substance misuse treatment, employment services, and other wraparound supports proven to end homelessness, help change and save lives.

The Job:

Job Summary:

The Volunteer and Donor Engagement Coordinator is responsible for building a volunteer program that engages the community, including Harbor Care donors, to help advance our mission. This position will work with both program and development staff to identify specific volunteer opportunities and will recruit and steward both individual and group volunteers for ongoing projects and one-time activities or events. This position will serve as a key member of the development team, working in collaboration to strengthen relationships with our donors and increased financial support for the organization. This position will report to the Director of Development and Fundraising.

Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience in volunteering and recruitment
  • Working knowledge of databases and proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent customer service, communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization and team-building skills
  • Experience working as part of a fundraising team a plus
  • Commitment to Harbor Care’s mission
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The assigned duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive recruitment, orientation, training, retention, and recognition plan for individual and group volunteers to ensure that all volunteers are knowledgeable and feel valued
  • Collaborate with program and development staff and leadership in developing and maintaining a comprehensive list of involvement opportunities throughout the organization and at specific program locations for individual and group volunteers
  • Actively recruit volunteers using various recruiting techniques for different projects, programs, and events 
  • Match volunteers to opportunities that suit their skill sets, and ensure they understand their responsibilities and receive the proper training, if necessary
  • Work with development team, and take lead, to create meaningful activities and events for donors to engage in our mission, including major donors and members of our monthly giving club. This includes, but not limited to, helping to coordinate annual Thanksgiving Dinner, organizing activities like cookouts or beautification projects at our residential facilities, etc.
  • In collaboration with development team, pursue volunteer partnerships with leading employers, to strengthen business affinity and financial support for organization
  • Develop and maintain complete and accurate records including volunteer policies, procedures, position descriptions, standards of conduct and, where applicable, criminal background checks
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all requests to volunteer and ensure a timely response
  • Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed
  • Assist in evaluating volunteers’ work, where appropriate, and provide constructive feedback
  • Planning and organizing events, in collaboration with program and development staff, including site selection, logistical arrangements, purchasing supplies, promoting events, scheduling and being the primary point of contact for the event
  • Track volunteer information, including hours worked, in Donor Perfect
  • Keep new and existing volunteers informed about the organization and volunteer opportunities
  • Must be willing to work outside of standard hours as needed, including nights and weekends in support of events
