White Mountain Science, Inc. (WMSI - pronounced ‘whimsy’), develops and delivers highly engaging and fun STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs with the goal of teaching creative problem solving to students and teachers.


Description:

White Mountain Science, Inc. (WMSI - pronounced ‘whimsy’), develops and delivers highly engaging and fun STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs with the goal of teaching creative problem solving to students and teachers. A WMSI part-time instructor assists and/or runs educational STEM programs for students a few days a week in North Country New Hampshire locations. This position involves an active role in lesson prep and driving a van to multiple locations within 1.5 hours of base. Additionally, an instructor is involved in working with school teachers to provide quality afterschool STEM education for 3rd-6th graders, and mentoring high school students in an effort to train them as assistant instructors. The position also includes office hours spent organizing teaching materials, helping in the evaluation of lessons, and creating documentation for future instructors. There are growth opportunities in this position, including additional hours and responsibilities over time.

White Mountain Science is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Littleton, NH.

Schedule:

  • Part-time position, starting at approximately 10-15 hours per week

  • Opportunity for growth in the position, to include additional hours and responsibilities

  • Able to drive to and facilitate programs in the school day and/or after-school timeframe

  • Available generally 2-3 days per week during the school year

  • Position is assessed on a seasonal basis (fall, winter, spring)

Requirements:
  • Must be motivated and self-directed

  • Completion of post-secondary degree - preferred

  • At least 1-3 years experience working with youth - essential

  • Prior science, technology, engineering, or math training - preferred

  • Strong communication and organization skills 

  • A flexible team player who is willing to learn from mistakes and adapt

  • Ability to support and empower students in the creative process

  • Ability to set a positive environment within a room 

  • Motivated to improve as an instructor and facilitate new material

  • Comfortable driving a van long distances safely in variable weather conditions

  • Final candidates are subject to a criminal background check.

Responsibilities:
  • Facilitation of off-site, on-site, and virtual STEM-based youth programs

  • Organization & maintenance of program-related resources & equipment

  • Occasional preparation of lesson curriculum
