Catholic Charities New Hampshire is looking for an Immigration Attorney to join our team of dedicated professionals in our Immigration Legal Services Department in Nashua. Our organization has been recognized and accredited by the Department of Justice (DOJ) since 1994 and we are committed to serving every client with compassion and respect. 

 

As an attorney for Immigration Legal Services, you will provide legal immigration representation to our clients and give information, referral, and advocacy services to families and individuals in accordance with established policies and procedures. This is a grant funded position under VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) and will work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and other crimes.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor Degree (JD) from an ABA accredited law school

• Activate and in good standing in any state Bar 

• Some experience in Immigration Law required

• Bilingual in English/Spanish (read, write and speak) is a plus 

• Understands and honors confidentiality requirements

• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office products

• Must have ability to travel to/attend meetings outside of the Nashua Office location

 

Physical Demands

• Sitting, standing, bending, lifting, stretching and moving within designated work area

• Close and distance vision, ability to distinguish color, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

• Ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive information

• Visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents 

Responsibilities:

• Maintain an active caseload as assigned by the Managing Attorney

• Represent clients before USCIS and Immigration Court

• Casework includes, but is not limited to: Removal proceedings and relevant relief such as U visas, T visas, VAWA Self Petitions, Special Immigrant Juvenile case work, Removal of Conditions on Residence, adjustment of status, naturalization, gender-based asylum, consular processing, and employment authorization 

• Interview clients from all walks of life and other cultures with respect and understanding

• Collaborate with others and interact with legal, DOJ accredited representatives, paralegals and other staff in a professional and respectful manner

• As directed you will assume responsibility for day-to-day supervision, support and evaluation of office volunteers, paralegals, and interns.  

• Represent Catholic Charities NH at community meetings as well as provide community outreach and training when needed.
