OUR ORGANIZATION

Southwestern Community Services (SCS), one of New Hampshire’s five community action agencies, has served the needs of Cheshire and Sullivan County citizens since 1965. SCS is a tax-exempt non-profit organization whose vision is to create and support a climate where poverty is never accepted as a chronic or permanent condition of any person’s life. SCS works to maintain awareness of the needs of the people in our communities. We provide a comprehensive range of services and advocacy programs—from housing to nutrition to education and more. Our programs are designed to have a measurable impact on poverty by covering the needs of children, families, and the elderly.

Southwestern Community Services is seeking bookkeeper with housing accounts payable and accounts receivable experience.  This is a full-time, hourly, professional position located in our Keene office.

Position requires the ability to process accounts payable and receivables for SCS elderly, senior, workforce and affordable housing properties.  This includes data entry, cash management, tenant rent posting and general ledger posting.

Works collaboratively with other members of the Fiscal team and the Property Management department.  Logical thinking, effective communication, managing multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is a must.  Utilizing Financial Edge, PaperSave, Genesis and Microsoft Office.  Reliable vehicle with vehicle insurance is required.

Job Summary:

Responsible for providing support to the Energy Services Director and Energy Services staff for the Claremont/Keene Offices. Position is M-F from 8:30am-4:30pm with occasional evenings during the Fuel Assistance season. Position is located primarily in Keene but travel will be necessary as needed.  

Requirements:
  • Five years of management and supervisory experience working with a team of 10+
  • The ability to motivate a team to meet defined goals through support, coaching and positive encouragement.
  • Ability to have critical conversations and provide constructive feedback for improved performance outcomes.
  • Knowledge of the local community, businesses and resources.
  • Understanding of MS Office 365 and comforatble learning other proprietary software.
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs and sitting for extended periods of time. (Reasonable accomodations can be made.)
  • Understanding of the heating industry and human services a plus.
  • Travel periodically to Claremont, NH or other state meetings as needed by the program.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist Director with the day-to-day supervision and support of all Energy Services staff including staff evaluations, payroll punches in Paylocity and scheduling.
  • Assist Director and staff with billing and/or unique cases
  • Ability to work closely with our applicants, vendors, landlords and other agency staff.
  • Certify client files.
  • Schedule client appointments, conduct client appointments and help complete applications.
  • Responsible for representing Fuel Assistance and the agency as a whole in various community meetings by explaining its programs/services and respective income requirements.
  • Coordinate and assist with emergency no-heat situations during the Fuel Season.
  • Ensure case notes are added to the FAP EAP database as needed.
  • Assist with the weekly Fuel Assistance letter printing.
  • Carry out the SCS mission statement in their daily activities and will understand that all households seeking assistance must be treated with dignity and respect.
  • Take initiative as appropriate especially in the Director's absence.
