Communications Hub - Executive Director

About Amplify New Hampshire: Amplify will create compelling unified messaging and develop and deploy a statewide network of citizen activists in support of the campaigns and issues of progressive partner organizations. Amplify will conduct research, develop coordinated messaging, offer tools and communications support to partner organizations, and drive significant earned and paid media campaigns. 


Building progressive power requires a robust, centralized, cross-issue communications hub to: 

● Develop and advance a positive and unifying narrative for New Hampshire’s citizens and the progressive community. 

● Conduct rigorous message testing and polling research. 

● Create, coordinate and disseminate issue and electoral messages. 

● Create communications campaigns that focus on the issues facing NH and especially the priorities of our partner organizations. 

● Provide training and support to partners and allies. 

● Engage and mobilize activists to demonstrate grassroot support through rallies, protests, canvasses, press conferences, and more. 

● Collaborate with, learn from, and develop strong working relationships with in-state partners and communication hubs in other states. 

● Drive strong digital communications strategies for New Hampshire’s progressive campaigns. 

● Generate compelling earned media. 

 

The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring a healthy and dynamic launch program to build a new organization that can: 

● Create and communicate a winning and focused mission, vision, and strategy. 

● Establish the funding capacity to implement high-impact campaigns and programs. 

● Engage a strong group of board members, advisors, and staff where each member understands her/his/their role and is set up to succeed. 

● Create an ambitious yet realistic and focused work plan. 

● Build strong relationships with partners and allies. 

Requirements:

● Minimum 5-7 years of relevant work experience. 

● 5+ years in management roles including staff supervision, fundraising, finance, board oversight, and/or operations in a nonprofit organization. 

● Deep understanding of social and political change and progressive movements backed by direct experience with grassroots and/or electoral efforts. 

● Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the organization. 

● Experience with and passion for individual donor fundraising. 

● Knowledge of digital communications and social media technology and practices. 

● Excellent communicator and writer, with experience tailoring messages to multiple and diverse audiences. 

● Experience and cultural proficiency with diverse communities. 

● Proven ability to work in a dynamic environment and build strong partnerships, ability to take initiative and make tough decisions. 

● Success supervising and mentoring staff and teams, including professional and leadership development. 

● Strategic, systems thinker, and creative problem solver. 

● Collaborative leadership style with engaging and confident interpersonal style. 

● Relevant experience on campaign work in New Hampshire. 

 

This is a full-time position and requires ED to work and be deeply engaged within New Hampshire. Initially, Amplify will be housed remotely. 

Responsibilities:

Organizational Strategy 

● Ground the organization in NH’s progressive infrastructure, regional and national political trends, and best communications practices from other organizations and states. 

● Provide leadership and continual development for a strong Board of Directors. 

● Create annual operating and strategic plans supporting a strategic roadmap, aligning work-plans and budgets. 

● Run rigorous programs, conduct ongoing analysis and measure outcomes. 

● Collaborate with partners and allies to create common, value-add strategies across organizations. 

● Establish a strong digital communications strategy and brand. 

Program and Communications Leadership 

● Identify goals, strategy, and tactics for issue, electoral, and narrative gains; implement plans to achieve gains. 

● Manage compelling communications campaigns that use earned media and digital communications to deliver effective messages to target audiences. 

● Work with partners, candidates, and elected officials to develop, test, and disseminate compelling messaging and campaigns that provide a unified communications strategy. 

● Manage online organizing that engages and mobilizes activists to provide grassroot support for strategies. 

● Develop and implement training opportunities for activists, organizational leaders, potential candidates, and elected officials. 

● Develop and lead a strong, creative, data-driven team to ensure high return on communications investments. 

 

Fundraising and Member Engagement 

● Raise the funds required to support the organization’s budget. 

● Retain and increase the ongoing support and political engagement of members and allies through events, communications, and individual conversations. 

● Maintain strong relationships with foundation partners and attract national funding. 

● Develop inspiring materials and verbal presentations for donors. 

● Fundraise for special projects in partnership with membership, institutions, and foundations. 

 

External Relations 

● Provide visible, respected, and collaborative communications leadership in the community. 

● Work with partners and allies to identify and fill gaps in the communications infrastructure. 

● Collaborate with allies, elected leaders, and other funders and partners to develop campaigns that ensure issue and electoral wins. 

● Share best practices and models with and adopt best practices and models of other communication efforts. 

● Act as on-the-record spokesperson, train partners in the role of on-the-record spokesperson. 

 

Administration 

● Build appropriate 501(c)3 entity. 

● Recruit and retain excellent staff; provide professional development opportunities, a motivating career path, and reward success. 

● Ensure legal and financial compliance and strong, transparent fiscal position. 

● Optimize advisor engagement. 

● Lead by example and support a fun, challenging, rewarding, and warm team culture. 

How to Apply:

Salary: Competitive salary, dependent on experience. Range $85,000 - $90,000 annually.
