Military & Veterans Outreach Specialist

Easterseals Military & Veterans Services, in partnership with Veterans Count, responds rapidly, efficiently and effectively to the unmet needs of service members, veterans and their families to ensure that they can thrive in their communities. We continue to hire and want to assure you that we are taking every action we can to support the safety and well-being of our staff, clients and community during the COVID–19 pandemic.

We are looking for Outreach Specialists to join our team right now! Come find your purpose while you make valuable, rewarding impacts in the lives of the individuals we serve.

In this role, you will identify and support veterans experiencing homelessness our housing instability, connecting them with rapid re-housing projects and other community resources and services in parts of Carroll, Strafford and Rockingham counties.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct street outreach in areas where people experience homelessness including woods and encampments;

  • Identify veterans experiencing homelessness, assess emergent needs and provide appropriate referrals and linkages to emergency shelter, permanent housing programs and other community resources;

  • Collect demographic data on identified veterans and enter into NH’s Homeless Management Information System (HMIS);

  • Assist veterans in understanding VA and civilian benefits;

  • Collaborate with other agencies in the community providing services to individuals experiencing homelessness to increase positive referrals and outcomes;

  • Accompany individuals as they apply for emergency shelter and other community resources; and

  • Participate in Continuum of Care General Assemblies and veteran subcommittees

  • Complete reports that include client summaries, statistics and other grant required information.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field required

  • Veteran preferred

  • Understanding of military structure/culture/benefits preferred

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and insurance which meets our coverage requirements

Compensation: $35,000 / year

Hours: This is a full time, 40 hours per week position
