Childcare Teacher

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization established in 1965 under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. We work with community, state and federal partners to assist children, families, low-income and elderly residents with their efforts to become or remain financially and socially independent through a variety of coordinated programs. Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, shelter and access to other services.

General Description

Provide a daily schedule of activities for play, meals, sleep, and toileting. Responsible for overall classroom management, health and safety of children in a childcare setting; implements Creative Curriculum in the classroom.

Education and/or Experience

· Per NH Child Care Licensing requirements, must be at least 21 years of age

· High School Diploma

· Minimum of 1,000 documented hours experience working with children in a licensed child care program

· College courses totaling 18 credits in early childhood education, with three credits in human growth and development.

· Interest and desire to interact and work with young children and adults.

· Prior experience working with children and the commitment to continue training.

· Reliable source of transportation, with insurance (100/300 liability minimum).

· Computer Literate.

· Current or able to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.

· Able to lift 25-40 lbs.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Greet parents at arrival and departure times.

· Develop weekly lesson plans, both for the class as a whole, , as well as individualized plans, based on child assessment.

· Write child progress reports, based on ongoing assessment and schedule individual parent conferences twice per year.

· Participate in Center Open Houses and fund raising activities.

· Implement monthly emergency practice drills.

· Attend monthly Building Meetings and in-service trainings.

· Implement the Creative Curriculum, the Project Approach, and other appropriate content.

· Use on-line curriculum and child assessment system (preschool).

· Keep complete and accurate records on the children.

· Create and maintain an exciting classroom learning environment for children.

· Participate in Building Meetings and staff training.

· Help to orient and train parent volunteers.

· Maintain confidentiality.

· Encourage parents to attend parent meetings and special events.

· Report any problems to the Center Director.

· Maintain and model good hygiene, appropriate dress (neat, clean and modest), and professional behavior to parents, staff and the community.

· Maintain a positive and productive attitude regarding the Center and the CAP Agency when interacting both within the program and with the greater community.

· Commitment to actively supporting Family Engagement and School Readiness.

  • Physical strength/endurance/mobility to perform in a standard daily required work routine (i.e. walking, sitting, lifting, and driving to various sites as required).

· Assistant Teacher and Childcare Aide in classroom if applicable

Employment Screening

Valid Driver's License and insured vehicle (100/300 minimum coverage) for use on the job or acceptable alternative, driving record check, criminal record check, randomized drug screening.

Head Start, Early Head Start, Childcare, and Home Visiting Programs are also subject to the following: Head Start and child care licensing requires a criminal record check and finger printing to be completed prior to employment. An initial physical examination record, including a TB screening must be obtained within 60 days of hire, updated every three years and kept on file with Human Resources. If a TB screening indicates high risk, results of a TB test must be kept on file including any treatment received. An initial driving record check will be conducted. License information will also be submitted to the agency’s automobile insurance carrier.
