NH Children's Trust

New Hampshire Children’s Trust is the Governor-designated statewide child abuse prevention agency, the New Hampshire Chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, and a member of the National Alliance of Children’s Trust and Prevention Funds. NHCT is an advocacy and training hub for improving access to high quality family strengthening and support services. In that role, NHCT is serving as a backbone organization for NH’s Family Resource Centers and other family serving agencies and initiatives.

The NH Children’s Trust is growing. We have an immediate need for an Accountant.

The accountant will be responsible for daily operation of fiscal duties including accounts payable/receivable, disbursements, cash receipts and payroll. Additionally, will assist with month end close, bank reconciliations and preparing invoices and reports for multiple state and federal contracts. The accountant will also help with the annual audit preparation. The NH Children’s Trust is a nonprofit organization with a $3+ million annual budget and a 14 person team. The accountant will report directly to the Director of Finance & Administration.  We are looking for a team player with nonprofit and state/federal contract experience. 


Skills/Experience Needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 4+ years of professional experience.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated accounting skills in a nonprofit environment
  • Knowledge of all aspects of the accounting cycle, including  A/P, A/R, payroll, reconciliations, financial statements
  • Familiarity with compliance issues and monthly invoicing of State and Federal cost reimbursement contracts
  • Double entry, accrual-based accounting software
  • Demonstrated high level knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint and a willingness and aptitude to learn other technology
  • Excellent judgment, communication (verbal and written) and listening skills
  • Conscientious, organized and very detail-oriented
  • Capable of communicating professionally with staff and external stakeholders in person, via email and on the phone.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently while managing multiple tasks and projects as well as to assess and change priorities based upon evolving agency needs

Preferred Skills

  • MIP fund balance accounting software
  • Familiarity with federal Single Audit guidelines

This position is an exempt, salaried position.  Salary will be based on experience.

Salary Range:

$55,000 to $65,000 depending on experience and academic credentials
