The Upper Room, A Family Resource Center

The Upper Room, A Family Resource Center located in Derry, NH is a 501C(3) non-profit organization, committed to creating educational programs and services to strengthen individuals, families and the community.   Founded in 1986, our organization has provided support, services, education and resources to all who inquire.  Our center is a warm and welcoming place, striving to foster a sense of belonging and purpose, while providing information and guidance to strengthen children and families, and build a stronger community.

Job Purpose: To work collaboratively with students to assist them in their academic goals. Teacher will offer instruction, with diversified pathways to teach and allowing for the needs of students. Working with compassion and understanding of trauma informed practices essential.

  • Optimal Candidate will hold teaching certificate, or education degree.
  • Strong group facilitation and teaching skills
  • Some prior experience or confidence with high school aged students
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Creativity
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Desire to work with Adolescents. 
  • Work Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday: 8 – 3  school year schedule, September - June
  • 35/week hours during school year and 1 week prior to school start

Provide High School Intrsutction to students, including supporting career and post high school ideas and concepts/life skills.

  • Support the team
  • Offer high school level instruction for both the Rejuvenate Program and HiSET Program (Alternative Educational Options)
  • Support HiSET Teacher in planning and implementing instruction, lessons, activities and tutoring for (Reading Writing, Math, Science, Career, Health and Social Studies)
  • Independently facilitate group instruction, as well as individual tutoring, to address specific academic needs and develop student knowledge and skills
  • Provide workshops/activities/ideas to support social emotional, transition to adulthood, and wellness for students
  • Effectively establish positive rapport with students, parents or school staff, being flexible to meet changing student needs  
  • Provide feedback regarding student progress, expectations, goals and activities
  • Encourage, engage, motivate and support students in the learning process to ensure positive classroom environment
  • Prepare, and support required reporting, attendance, documentation of programs
  • Create positive relationships with agency staff to build team camaraderie.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Follow guiding principles that lead our industry (FSNH/National Standards, Strengthening Families, Restorative Justice, Trauma Informed, 2 Generation, Protective Factors or program specific best practices, and evidence-based programs)
