Staff Accountant

Riverbend Community Mental Health

Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant will be assisting the Senior Staff Accountant with generating monthly financial statements, various reports, and for maintaining the integrity of data in the financial systems. 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required; college degree preferred.
  • Three years’ experience with purchasing, accounts payable and/or general accounting in a fast-paced environment is preferred.
  • Experience with computerized accounting and accounts receivable system, report writing, and spreadsheets is preferred. 
  • Experience in a medical or health-related agency is preferred.
  • Produce timely and accurate financial statement and reports including:
    • Prepare and enter journal entries into the general ledger system;
    • Prepare and process weekly accounts payable and maintenance of vendor files;
    • Reconcile bank statements monthly.
  • Ensure financial data is accurately captured in various agency systems including:
    • Reconcile all assigned accounts monthly and process adjustments as needed;
    • Review monthly pre-close and post-close to identify any areas of concern, make adjustments, and seek consultation on any concerning matters;
    • Prepare analysis of any significant variances to budget and provide information to Managers as needed;
    • Maintain distribution tables, chart of accounts, and materials management for Accounts Payable maintenance;
    • Enter and maintain data for fixed assets.
  • Provide support to the finance department and agency such as:
    • Assist Managers with analysis of finance and/or statistical reports;
    • Assist in the payment of emergent loans, grants or subsidies preparing the necessary back-up documentation and communicating effectively with appropriate parties;
    • Provide support to Senior Staff Account and/or Controller when needed, including year-end, during annual audits, and during budget preparation;
    • Document bank entries to agency accounts on a daily basis, process stop-payment requests as needed, and research any outstanding, uncashed checks;
    • Prepare cost reports monthly for a variety of agencies that Riverbend works with to seek reimbursement for various projects;
    • Review Accounts Payable on a weekly basis and provide back-up for this team as necessary.
