In 2019, we provided $1,371,000 in essential services and financial assistance initiatives focused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility aligned to the unique and diverse needs of our community.  We serve over 24K members, 12K youth under age 18, and 550+ children in our after school care/early education programs

Compensation and Benefits

We provide our full-time staff with comprehensive medical and dental, generous paid time off, free family YMCA membership, discounted classes and team sports and 12% retirement contribution after two years of qualified service.   Salary range: $75,000 – 85,000.

Position Summary:

The Director of Development is responsible for all streams of fundraising of the YMCA of Greater Nashua, including the annual support campaign, major gift fundraising, special event fundraising, corporate gifts, capital campaigns, and planned giving.  Responsibilities include strategic planning for an integrated campaign model that supports the Association’s goals and vision, volunteer management of the Financial Development Committee and Board of Directors as well as task forces, relationship building to strengthen our ties with key constituents through systematic cultivation and stewardship, directing the fundraising activities of the senior management team and program directors.  This position supervises one administrative coordinator.  The YMCA of Greater Nashua operates four facilities:  Nashua YMCA, Merrimack YMCA, Westwood Park YMCA, and Camp Sargent (day camp). 


  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years experience in the development field.  
  • A background of successful experiences in financial development with a track record of effective influencing skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a welcoming, enthusiastic presence.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills to effectively relate and motivate volunteers and staff to achieve financial development goals and objectives as well as a high level of organizational skills is required. 
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to manage a variety of fundraising initiatives simultaneously.
  • Previous supervisor experience a plus.
  • Strong computer skills with ability to research and analyze data, set annual fundraising plan that aligns with budget. 
  • Demonstrated results of positive engagement with volunteer, corporate, foundation and elected officials.
  • Successful experience with area corporate and foundation communities a decided plus.
  • Excellent planning and project management capability.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, coordinate, manage, upgrade and strengthen the annual association-wide annual campaign with emphasis on developing a larger donor and volunteer base, increase volunteer confidence and development of a case for support.
  • Support future giving by identifying, informing and cultivating potential new donors.
  •  Insure donor retention through a comprehensive donor stewardship program.
  • Upgrade and strengthen a comprehensive endowment development program.
  • Cultivate area corporate relationships to increase both financial and in-kind support.
  • Coordinate donor and volunteer recognition activities and events.
  • Evaluate all aspects of the financial development program and introduce new fundraising methods to elevate giving.
  • Provide staff leadership in the planning, coordinating and managing of any capital campaigns for major gifts and community efforts.  This will include:
  • Monitor the campaign timetable.
  • Manage and expand donor identification prospecting and the preparation of software and database system to support needed information.
  • Work closely with Campaign counsel.
  • Manage the donor communication and activities plan including, but not limited to, special events, socials, pre-campaign volunteers and community education programs.
  • Identify and secure corporate sponsors for select programs.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to standing committees including Financial Development Committees and Special Events committees and other ad hoc committees as required.
  • Work closely with Marketing Director to promote campaign and fundraising efforts.
  • Provide for internal controls to ensure the integrity of donor relationships, timely donor acknowledgements, accountability of donor restricted gifts, etc.
  • Be knowledgeable of and assure adherence to all Association policies and procedures currently in effect.
  • Assume any other responsibilities related to the total Association Financial Development process and plan as deemed necessary.

Effect On End Result:

  • Increased annual giving through:  heightened awareness of community, cultivation of significant new donors, high retention of current donors, & comprehensive campaigning
  • Launch of a successful cultivation and stewardship committee, with more fully engaged donors and potential donors.
  • Growth of Heritage Club through implementation of a comprehensive endowment development program.
  • Continued growth and effectiveness in Board and volunteer development.
  • Plan and execute effective and successful special events.
