NH Writers Project

The New Hampshire Writers’ Project (NHWP) is a membership organization that supports the development of individual writers and encourages an audience for literature in New Hampshire and other New England states. The NHWP is a resource for writers, publishers, booksellers, literary agents, educators, librarians, and readers. 

  • Maintaining records according to generally accepted accounting principles, including: recording general journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and reconciliation of bank statements;
  • Preparing financial statements, budget reports, accounts receivable reports;
  • Preparing checks;
  • Participating in activities needed to support the management functions of the team; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and in a timely manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Individual must be a self-starter, have good organizational and communication skills. Individual must be able to work well with the Board of Trustees and other individuals within the organization including work study students and volunteers.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of bookkeeping experience required; and
  • A high school diploma or equivalency required, with accounting-related college coursework or Associates Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts as applied to accounting such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

Computer Skills

  • Computer literacy to include moderate to high typing skills, 10-key by touch, ability to work with Microsoft Office applications specifically with proficiency in Excel, and the ability to learn new software, as needed; and
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks online version software is required.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping practices and procedures including non profits;
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is absolutely required, as well as a track record of reliability, confidentiality, and conscientious work habits;
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision;
