Brewster Academy

Brewster Academy, an independent boarding/day school, provides 360 boys and girls, grades 9 through PG, representing a community of diverse and talented learners, with a transformative and highly personalized education.  Located on the shores of beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee and close to the White Mountains, its 80 acres offer students and employees classic New England facilities and a resource-rich community.

Brewster Academy, a private boarding/day school located on Lake Winnipesaukee in Wolfeboro NH is currently accepting resumes for a Part-time Registered Nurse and a per diem Registered Nurse for our Student Health Center. Our nurses play a crucial role in the health center team by providing excellent care to our student population. Responsibilities include the triage, diagnosis, and treatment of student health issues, transportation of the local hospital as needed, immunization as needed, maintenance of student medical files, provide mental health support and refer to the Director or School Counselor if needed.


Minimum Qualifications:  Registered Nurse, current NH Nursing license, current CPR and AED certification for Professional Rescuer, minimum 5 years nursing experience, valid driver’s license.

Desired Qualifications: pediatric, public health or school nurse work experience, computer literacy


Basic Function and Responsibility

To address the episodic and preventative health care needs of the student body in order to maximize their physical, mental and athletic participation in the academic setting. To assist the Director of Student Health Services in the completion of goals of the Student Health Center. Substitution for Director’s daytime shift (for illness or conferences) may be requested.

Specific Accountabilities

Illness: attend to the health needs of students during both on-call and duty hours.  This requires nursing diagnoses and triage of patients for further care and treatment according to Health Center protocol, and constant communication with local physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists, specialists, lab personnel and school staff, as needed; may involve transporting students to the hospital as needed.

Medication: dispense medications to students as prescribed and in accordance with state laws and regulations regarding medication and school policy; maintain student charts for tracking medication compliance.

Communication: with parents (including letters after each doctor’s appointment, phone calls when appropriate);  with faculty, administrators, athletic staff, community living parents and weekend duty staff, as needed, to coordinate care with participation in classes, athletics, and student responsibilities, and to notify appropriate staff of absences due to health or student’s status as needed.

Ancillary duties: assist with periodic health-related projects, such as the following:      

  • Review student health forms
  • Update student medical records
  • Complete ADHD Nursing evaluations
  • Assist with any school immunization clinic
  • Renew state licensure
  • Maintenance/cleanliness of HC and equipment

Transportation: assist with daily transportation of students to appointments and labs, pick up prescriptions from a pharmacy, as needed, and transporting students to the hospital as needed.

Mental health referrals: refer students with emotional or mental needs to Health Director or School Counselor so that student’s needs can be met; provide mental health support when school counselor is not available.
