Volunteer Coordinator

Gather

Gather serves those in our community experiencing hunger. We provide nutritious food through innovative distribution programs and our Pantry Market. We offer nutrition education and recipes for healthy living. In addition, we collaborate with community partners to address the root causes of hunger.


General Description:  The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and scheduling volunteers to ensure the success of all Gather programs; in addition, will orient and engage with volunteers to ensure they are successful and satisfied in their roles. 

The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the Pantry Market Manager and the Community Programs Director to appropriately staff Gather programs; and will work with the Director of Administration and Data Systems to implement improved processes and systems to increase volunteer engagement and improve program effectiveness and efficiency.

This Position Reports to:  Director of Administration and Data Systems

Requirements:

Key Characteristics/Core Competencies:

  • Must be a motivated, self-starter with a positive attitude
  • Must have exceptional leadership, communication and organizational skills
  • Must have proficient skills in WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK and Constant Contact and preferably experience with online volunteer management/database programs.

Educational Requirements:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities:

  • Receive, process and maintain volunteer applications through an online volunteer management system.
  • Maintain the volunteer management platform including scheduling new and updating existing opportunities and reporting monthly volunteer hours.
  • Process and maintain all paperwork that may be specific to certain volunteer opportunities, such as DMV and Criminal Background checks.
  • Publish volunteer opportunities through Constant Contact, and as appropriate, through the volunteer management platform.
  • Promote volunteer opportunities and initiate new ways to reach and recruit volunteers in addition to maintaining current volunteer sites (Volunteer Match, United Way, etc.)
  • Coordinate monthly or bi-weekly volunteer orientations.
  • Provide copy and updates on gather volunteer opportunities to the social media and webpage consultant.
  • Develop and provide story highlighting a volunteer for monthly newsletters.
  • Plan and implement a Volunteer Recognition Plan.
  • Conduct volunteer surveys as requested or appropriate.
