Behavioral Interventionist - St. Charles School

St. Charles School, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire, is looking for a Behavioral Interventionist to join our dedicated team of special education teachers, paraprofessionals, behavioral consultants, and administrators. The Behavioral Interventionist is responsible for assisting classroom teachers in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of at-risk students with behavioral challenges. This position is also responsible for creating and administering intensive behavior intervention programs, collecting student data, and, monitoring student progress.

St. Charles School provides academic, social, emotional and behavioral services in a therapeutic setting for male and female students in grades K-8.  We are a private provider of special education serving public school students. Our curriculum is non-religious.

With decades of experience supporting child trauma survivors, St. Charles is uniquely positioned to work with children who display severe behaviors in the typical classroom setting. We provide a safe and nurturing environment to help students heal, build meaningful connections; and over time, develop the positive behaviors to successfully reintegrate into traditional school environments.

Requirements:
  • Five years of supervisory and related experience in group work and community organization
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited educational program as well as experience in a child-related field
  • Certification in some form of behavior intervention protocol is required
  • Experience working with at-risk and high-risk children is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions within the framework of established guidelines
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement de-escalation, behavior intervention, and behavior management techniques
  • Knowledge of safe practices in classroom and playground activities; and knowledge of basic instructional methods and techniques
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Willing to be trained and/or updated in First Aid and CPR
Responsibilities:
  • Provide high quality instruction and behavioral support to at-risk students throughout St. Charles School as needed
  • Develop behavior plans for each student and monitor and support the behavior plans through regular consultations with teachers and staff
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to provide educational and/or social-emotional interventions along with progress monitoring
  • Develop and use instructional and behavioral support tools both within a regular elementary classroom and small group setting as needed
  • Assist teachers and staff with de-escalating behavior and re-integration back into the regular classroom
  • Provide input to teachers and teams regarding student strengths and weaknesses for assigned at-risk students
  • Assists teachers to develop and implement classroom based, developmentally appropriate, interventions for individuals and groups of students to enhance their skill acquisition
  • Report incidents promptly to maintain personal safety of students and adhere to New Hampshire law and district policies
  • Act with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner to maintain functional relationships with students and colleagues
  • Maintain accurate records and reports
  • Accept, understand, and relate to students who have behavioral, emotional, learning, or physical disabilities
