Teacher Assistant

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for working collaboratively with the Teacher in creating a supportive and enriching learning environment for preschool children and for planning, designing and implementing a comprehensive developmentally appropriate curriculum that provides hands-on learning opportunities for all children. Under the supervision of the Teacher, the Teacher Assistant will model the appropriate interventions and interactions with children, will share the responsibilities of completing the required paperwork, work collaboratively with all other SCS staff and participate in all required meetings and trainings. The Teacher Assistant will assist in the implementation of an individualized approach when supervising and guiding behaviors of child/children using the CSEFEL Framework and strategies. The Teacher Assistant helps the Teacher in the collection and entry of data on each child three times a year in the five established domain areas. This position requires conducting at least two home visits and three parent-teacher conferences for each child to foster effective home-school communication and build partnerships with parents and the community. The Teacher Assistant shares in the responsibility for the overall care of the classroom and its contents and conducts and maintains inventories of supplies and equipment in the classroom. The teacher assistant will be familiar with the Performance Standards, NAEYC requirements and updating the classroom portfolio.


1. At least AA degree in ECE
2. Classroom experience with pre-school children (Head Start experience preferred)
3. Certification in child first aid and CPR (program will provide upon hire)
4. Ability to manage time and work flexible hours
5. Creativity, flexibility, and a positive attitude working with children and families
6. An understanding of how to work with low income families
7. Willingness to pursue professional development opportunities
8. Ability to work collaboratively with others who support the child/children
9. Ability to lift 35 pounds
