Step Up Parents awarded $5,000 grant from the Greater Lakes Region Children's Auction for NH kinship caregiver support

Lakes Region - New Hampshire nonprofit Step Up Parents was thrilled to receive a $5,000 grant from the Greater Lakes Region Children's Auction to provide financial support to kinship caregivers across the state who have stepped up for children of parents with substance use disorder. The grant will also help Step Up Parents build their organizational capacity to keep pace with the fast-growing demand for caregiver assistance in New Hampshire.

"We received over $650,000 in grant requests and are pleased to award Step Up Parents for the important work they do to improve lives of area children," said Jaimie Sousa, chair of the Greater Lakes Region Children's Auction board.

With the number of kinship caregivers growing and the cost of everyday essentials skyrocketing, the need for support is great.

"We are seeing an uptick in the number of requests and amounts requested," reports Denyse Richter, Executive Director of Step Up Parents. "We are so grateful to the Greater Lakes Region Children's Auction for supporting our work again this year, allowing us to meet the needs of more kinship families throughout the greater Lakes Region."

About Step Up Parents
Founded in 2019 and based in Portsmouth, NH, Step Up Parents offers financial assistance to relative caregivers in New Hampshire who have selflessly stepped up to be surrogate parents to children whose parents struggle with substance use disorder. We are dedicated to honoring the efforts of these caregivers, preserving their dignity, and responding to their families' immediate needs. Step Up Parents believes that even heroes need a hand.
