Park Theatre Announces Re-Construction

Trustees for The Park Theatre announced that the US Department of Agriculture has approved a $2,000,000 loan for the re-construction of the Theatre from the USDA Office of Rural Development’s Community Facilities Program.  “The project is set to take an important step, “said board chair Caroline Hollister.  “Thanks to the support from the community, the campaign to raise $100,000 for a $200,000 tax credit match from NH’s Community Development Finance Authority was successful.  Having the USDA-RD loan approved means that it is time to demolish the existing structure and prepare the site for re-construction.  The tax credits from the Community Development Finance Authority, matched by the generosity of the community, make that possible.”  Trustees expect the demolition and site preparation to occur shortly after Thanksgiving and are planning an event to celebrate it.

Trustees will unveil the broader timetable and plans for rebuilding to the community at the Theatre’s annual meeting on December 5th at 5 pm at the Jaffrey Woman’s Club to which the public is always invited.  The annual meeting includes live music, entertainment and refreshments in addition to a report on the project to the community.  Board chair Hollister added that the final facility designs and engineering have been completed by BKA Architects and TF Moran Engineering, and that the project has been strengthened by the services and support provided by its partners, Hutter Construction Corporation, Southwest Regional Planning Corporation and Monadnock Economic Development Corporation.

Plans for the Theatre’s building site and necessary variances for construction in downtown Jaffrey were approved by the Jaffrey Zoning Board of Adjustment and the town’s Planning Board in March and June, respectively.  All environmental studies of the property have been completed; remediation of the underground storage tank was undertaken by Southwest Regional Planning Corporation with their experts and at their expense.  Interior abatement of asbestos, lead paint and other material will be undertaken in November by the qualified contractor engaged by Hutter Construction Corporation.

Trustees have also successfully mounted Season 6 of the Theatre’s art and entertainment programs with 11 movies shown this year.  Since 2007, the Theatre has attracted over 7,700 patrons into downtown Jaffrey specifically for the Theatre programs.  The final movie in the 2013 season will be shown on Saturday, November 9th at 7 pm at the Jaffrey Woman’s Club and will include the Theatre’s annual Salute to Veterans with the showing of “Objective Burma” and special recognition of the region’s veterans.
