New Leadership Announced for the Monadnock Regional Coordinating Council for Community Transportation

A diverse group of stakeholders enable the MRCC to address the vital need for access to transportation, which was identified as a pressing problem in Southwest New Hampshire.

The new leadership team for the Monadnock Regional Coordinating Council (MRCC) for Community Transportation was elected in July. The council’s mission is to actively lead and engage the region in building an innovative, coordinated and resilient transportation network. Serving as Chair is Ellen Avery, Executive Director of Community Volunteer Transportation Company (CVTC) and Regional Mobility Manager; Andrew Harmon, citizen advocate for transportation is Vice-Chair; Cameron Tease, Executive Director of the Keene Senior Center is Secretary; and Dylana Shreckengost, Grant Assistant for Cheshire County Government is Treasurer. Todd Horner, Planner with Southwest Regional Planning Commission provides staff support. The MRCC is one of nine regional coordinating councils in NH as part of the State Coordinating Council for Community Transportation.

The MRCC is composed of local transportation providers, funding organizations, human service agencies requiring transportation services, and community members that either reside in or service all of Cheshire County and 10 towns in Hillsborough County (Antrim, Bennington, Francestown, Greenfield, Greenville, Hancock, New Ipswich, Peterborough, Sharon, and Temple). Current community transportation providers are CVTC, Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services (HCS), the Keene Senior Center, Monadnock Family Services Senior Grocery Shopping Program (Peterborough, Jaffrey and Rindge), and Volunteers Enabling Transportation (VET).

CVTC, VET, and the Keene Senior Center utilize over 100 Volunteer Drivers to get people without access to transportation to important medical and social service appointments, along with grocery shopping, banking, going to the post office and trips to the pharmacy. HCS serves residents in Keene with the Friendly Bus (60 years and over) and City Express fixed route bus service. They also run a medical transportation van every Wednesday up to the V.A. Hospital in White River Junction and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in West Lebanon. The Keene Senior Center provides rides for people living in surrounding towns that would like to participate in activities at the Center and have no way to get there. Over 600 individuals have their transportation needs met by these organizations.

MRCC meetings are open to the public and take place monthly, held on the third Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Contact Todd Horner for meeting location at 357-0557 or thorner@swrpc.org.
