Magor and Wheeler Named to Mount Washington Observatory Board of Trustees

Mount Washington - Mount Washington Observatory is proud to welcome two new members to its Board of Trustees: Larry Magor of Carroll, New Hampshire and Albert Wheeler of Cumberland Center, Maine. Magor and Wheeler were appointed during Mount Washington Observatory’s 2012 Annual Meeting on July 21, which was attended by some 500 Observatory members and supporters from across the country.

Magor is the managing director of the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, where he was named Omni Hotels and Resorts General Manager of the Year in 2010 for his major renovation and repositioning of the Grand Resort. Before his time in New Hampshire he served as the Managing Director of Wyndham Resorts in St. Thomas and Bermuda, as well as Interstate Hotels properties from Florida to Canada. Magor has served on the boards of numerous regional organizations, including the Bermuda Hotel Association, Florida Hotel/Motel Association, Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce, US Virgin Island Hotel and Tourism Association, and New Hampshire Grand. He is a member of the AHLA Resort Committee, SKAL International, and Chaine des Rotisseurs.

Wheeler is the retired Meteorologist-in-Charge of the Gray, Maine National Weather Service Forecast Office. During his twenty year tenure at Gray he earned numerous awards for his accomplishments, including a Department of Commerce organizational Silver Medal for exemplary service during the January 1998 ice storm. He volunteered with the Local Federal Coordinating Committee for the Maine Combined Federal Campaign for more than 15 years, serving as Chair from 1998 to 2007. Prior to his work in Maine, Wheeler served in various management and forecaster positions at the Cleveland, OH, Philadelphia, PA and Bismarck, ND National Weather Service Forecast Offices, as well as a private meteorological service in New Orleans, LA.

”Developing a well-rounded, highly skilled board is essential for any nonprofit and I am proud of the work we have done in that regard at Mount Washington Observatory,” says Scot Henley, Executive Director. “Together, Larry Magor and Al Wheeler bring deep skills and experience in business and in science to the Board of Trustees that will help advance this institution for years to come. We are delighted to have them involved with this unique nonprofit cause.”
