Friends of Aine Center for Grieving Children and Families Receives Grief Reach Grant from the New York Life Foundation

Manchester – The Friends of Aine Center for Grieving Children and Families is proud to announce the receipt of a $20,000 Grief Reach IT Capacity Building Grant from the New York Life Foundation. Funds will be used to establish a robust information technology infrastructure that will allow the organization to better support families and volunteers and improve engagement with its donors, partners and foundations.

“We are grateful for the New York Life Foundation’s investment in this program, which will help us build our capacity in order to fulfill our mission,” said David Phillips, co-founder of Friends of Aine. “The support will help many grieving children and their families in our community to begin the healing process. To receive such generous support is validation that Friends of Aine is filling a void in our communities.”

In 2019, Friends of Aine increased the number of children, teens and families served by 146%. Earlier this month, 27 new children and teens entered our Good Grief program. Goals for 2020 include establishing a new group for young adults, and adding a third location for groups in the Nashua area.

“Through our work in the bereavement sector, we saw a growing need to ensure that organizations have the sustainability and infrastructure needed to meet the increased demand for services and resources that focus on bereaved youth across the country,” said Maria Collins, vice president, New York Life Foundation. “The expansion of the Grief Reach program will help increase access and resolve gaps in bereavement support so that organizations can focus on the unmet needs within the populations they serve.”

The New York Life Foundation created the Grief Reach program to help providers overcome barriers to bringing grief support services to youth not served by existing bereavement programs. More than 300 Grief Reach grants totaling nearly $10 million have been awarded since the program’s inception in 2011. The New York Life Foundation has been one of the leading funders of the childhood bereavement field, investing over $45 million to date in support of grieving children and their families.

About the Friends of Aine Center for Grieving Children and Families Friends of Aine is a 501c(3) non-profit organization established in 2013, in memory of Aine Phillips, who died unexpectedly at the age of 8.
