Families First Health and Support Center Awarded $5,000 grant

Seabrook - The Provident Community Charitable Organization recently awarded a $5,000 grant to Families First Health and Support Center to provide oral health education, screenings and cleanings to students at Seabrook Elementary School and Seacoast Head Start. This is the eleventh grant awarded through The Provident Bank’s charitable foundations to Families First, including four grants to the dental program in Seabrook.

The school-based program is designed to educate all children while identifying those with oral health needs that are not being addressed. During the 2015-2016 school year, the Seabrook dental program discovered that 21 percent of the children screened had a history of decay, and 11 percent had active decay at the time they were screened. To address these issues, Families First’s dental hygienist offered oral health education to 421 children in 22 classrooms and screened 253 students in Seabrook. Those with unmet dental needs were then offered in-school dental services and were referred to a dentist if needed. Services are also provided at Seacoast Head Start.

Families First partners with Lamprey Health Care to provide services at Seabrook Elementary.

"It is evident by the response of the permission forms returned that the parents of Seabrook Elementary School students recognize more and more the value of the school dental program and the importance of dental health,” says Seacoast Healthy Grins Dental Hygienist Cindy Bishop. “The program just completed its fifth year in Seabrook and the support of The Provident Bank, through its charitable organizations, has been the main reason we are able to continue the program there."

“The Provident Bank is proud to contribute to such a highly commendable organization like Families First. The education and care they provide to students of Seabrook Elementary School and Seacoast Head Start is critical for long-term health and wellness,” said Dave Mansfield, CEO of The Provident Bank. “We are honored to support an incredibly worthwhile and impactful cause.”
