Behold, I Bring you Glad Tidings

Presented by: Concord Chorale

The Concord Chorale celebrates the holiday season with “Behold, I Bring you Glad Tidings,”  a presentation of works by Purcell, Buxtehude and Vivaldi.  The Chorale is joined by a young and promising group of soloists, including soprano Erin M. Smith, mezzo soprano Kathleen Maysek, tenor Matthew Hennek, and baritone Alex Hurd, plus a 17-piece Baroque orchestra with brass.

The composers bring together three different religious traditions from the Baroque era, those of the Anglican, Lutheran and Catholic churches, and represent hopeful music for Advent and Christmas. Buxtehude was a teacher of Bach, and his sunny and joyful music represents the best of the Baroque tradition in that generation. Vivaldi’s “Magnificat,” one of his lesser known works, is similar to his popular “Gloria” and brings a sense of gravitas to the performance.

Three concerts will be performed:

Friday, December 8, 7 PM at South Congregational Church, 27 Pleasant Street, Concord

Saturday, December 9, 3 PM at Christ Church, 43 Pine Street, Exeter

Sunday, December 10, 3 PM again at South Congregational Church
