Mastering the Board Chair-Executive Director Partnership

Let’s be honest, the role of the board chair is extraordinarily important, but the nonprofit sector as a whole does little to prepare these brave, extraordinary volunteers for this highly nuanced role.

Board chairs will bring different styles to the role, but all have to finesse the art of focusing the attention of a diverse group of volunteer board members on ways to:

  • effectively govern
  • provide thoughtful and relevant strategy
  • understand their individual and full board roles
  • team with the executive director to move the organization's priorities forward.

It’s a daunting but fulfilling job. Unlike any other leadership position, the board chair is responsible for facilitating the success of the full board as strategist, ambassadors, fundraisers and fiscal overseers. This webinar is designed to help board chairs deepen their understanding and mastery of the role, enrich their partnership with the executive director and provide chairs with strategies, tools and resources to aid in their effectiveness.

Webinar will be presented by Mary Ellen Jackson. Maria Sillari, former board chair of Portsmouth Music & Arts Center will lend her experience to the conversation.

60 minutes with an optional 30 minute Q&A on specific board issues

Presenter Mary Ellen Jackson welcomes questions about specific issues or situations regarding the board chair role ahead of time. Please email questions to

The webinar will be open to current and incoming board chairs and executive directors. Pricing includes discount for Board Chair-ED teams.
