Nonprofit Capitol Exchange: The Nonprofit-Municipal Partnership

The pandemic has heightened our collective awareness about the importance of partnerships between local nonprofits and municipalities. Join us virtually for the first Capitol Exchange of 2022 with guests Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig and Margaret Byrnes from the NH Municipal Association to understand how to better navigate partnerships with municipal officials.

The NH Center for Nonprofits' Capitol Exchange offers nonprofit professionals the chance to connect with our state's leading policy leaders.

About our Guests

Joyce Craig, Mayor of the City of Manchester
Born and raised in Manchester, Mayor Joyce Craig grew up in Ward 8 and is a graduate of Manchester public schools having attended Green Acres, Southside and Memorial High School. After she earned her degree in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire, Joyce worked as a marketing director for 15 years where she developed strategic plans and managed multimillion dollar budgets.

Joyce began her public service in 2007, when she ran for and won a seat on the Board of School Committee. In 2009, Joyce won a seat on the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and served three terms representing Ward 1. On November 7, 2017, Joyce became the first woman to be elected Mayor of Manchester. She was sworn in for her second term on January 7, 2020. 

Joyce and her husband, Attorney Michael Craig, have three children, William, Sarah and Kathryn. Joyce is also an avid runner who has completed 14 marathons, including 10 consecutive Boston Marathons.

Margaret M.L. Byrnes, Executive Director, New Hampshire Municipal Association
Margaret serves as Executive Director and oversees all activities of the New Hampshire Municipal Association. Margaret joined NHMA in September 2014 as a staff attorney before becoming Executive Director in 2019. Before joining NHMA, Margaret was an associate attorney with the firm Hage Hodes, P.A. in Manchester. She also taught legal research and writing at Northeastern University School of Law, Suffolk Law School, and The Massachusetts Schools of Law for several years. Margaret has an M.B.A. from The University of New Hampshire Paul School of Business, a J.D. from the Massachusetts School of Law, and a B.A. in English Language and Literature and Classical Languages from Smith College.
