Kimball Jenkins is a vibrant nonprofit cultural center in downtown Concord, New Hampshire. We welcome thousands of visitors to our 3-acre campus each year to engage in the arts, history, and cultural dialogue. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Concord Historic District, Kimball Jenkins offers a rare urban greenspace with a rich and diverse history stretching back millennia. It was gifted to the community in 1981 by Carolyn Jenkins, the last of six generations of Kimballs to live on the property.

Kimball Jenkins is a community cultural center located on a historic estate in downtown Concord, NH that champions the arts and historic preservation. Home to Kimball Jenkins School of Art, adult community education classes are available in ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, and printmaking, and free after school art clubs are offered for middle school and high school aged youth year-round. Our summer art camp welcomes hundreds of youths to campus each summer, with more than $21,000 in scholarships awarded annually.

Many organizations call Kimball Jenkins home, hosting their weekly or monthly meetings in our creative and welcoming environment. Kimball Jenkins has two galleries, one in the Mansion and the other the Carriage House, presenting exhibitions that represent an array of artists and audiences. We champion diverse perspectives and identities work to make arts education accessible. The campus is also available for rent for life's most special celebrations including bridal showers, weddings, and celebrations of life.

The Position. Kimball Jenkins, Inc. seeks an experienced, hands-on Executive Director. The Executive Director will serve as the chief administrator, providing leadership, managing financials, implementing policies and programs, and creating sustainable progress in achieving the organization’s mission. The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of the organization, ensuring  that it efficiently and effectively meets its strategic goals. In this role, you will be the face of Kimball Jenkins, working closely and communicating clearly with the Board of Directors, other staff, faculty, students, the public, and donors and funders. The Executive Director position is full-time, salaried, and exempt. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Financial Management – You are responsible for utilizing all resources of the non-profit corporation in implementing applicable policies adopted by the Board of Directors.  You will establish an annual budget for Board approval, manage resources within the established budget,  and provide accurate and timely budget-related reporting and tracking. You are responsible for the maintenance of ethical business procedures and are responsible, either directly or indirectly, for maintaining an organizational culture that promotes ethical professional and financial practices.

 

  • Fundraising – A critical component of the position requires the implementation of diverse fundraising strategies and techniques, including identifying resource requirements, determining funding sources, establishing strategies to approach donors, funders and grantors and, importantly, developing business relationships with them, maintaining accurate and complete fundraising records and documentation, and marshaling the time and talents of the board and staff, resulting in new funding resources, growth and sustainability.

 

  • Program and Service Management – You will oversee the design, marketing, delivery and quality of programs, classes and services that align with and promote the organization’s mission. You will plan and monitor the financial and staff resources needed for programming to ensure it adds to the vitality and success of the organization. You will draft, present, and recommend organizational policies and programs to the Board.

 

  • Human Resource Management – You are responsible for supervising the organization’s personnel. This includes advertising, recruiting and interviewing personnel, consulting with and drawing upon advice from the Board as necessary.  You are responsible for establishing and maintaining a competent organizational personnel structure with functions, responsibilities, policies, authority, and accountability clearly defined. 

 

  • Community and Public Relations – You will ensure that the organization and its mission, programs and services are presented in a strong, positive, and consistent way to the greater Concord and state-wide community. You will support and direct public relations and social media activities to build and maintain relationships with other organizations and the public.

 

  • Board Administration and Support: You will be an ex-officio (non-voting) member of the Board of Directors, and you will participate with the Directors in the responsibility for establishing and implementing policies and procedures.  You will ensure staff participation in committee meetings as needed. You will report to the Board of Directors, maintaining open communication and disclosure of the conditions, operations, and needs of the organization. 

 

  • Property and Project Management: You will administer the organization’s facilities management program, stewarding the property in a manner that maintains its long-term preservation and enhances programs, services and events. You will implement processes to track and monitor the organization’s investment in its facilities and the safety of all users and administer projects that improve the campus and grounds.   

 

  • Administrative Functions: You will ensure that the organization’s paper and digital records and archives are maintained in an organized, appropriate and accessible manner. You will oversee the organization’s rental and events programs, with the goal of expanding property use by diverse audiences in a manner that supports the organization’s mission and sustainability.

 

  • Strategic Planning.  You will be responsible for administering, monitoring and developing the organization’s strategic plan as periodically directed by the Board of Directors.  You will ensure that the organization’s programs and services align with the strategic plan goals. 

 

  • Other Duties:  Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Board of Directors from time to time.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong track record of fundraising and successful financial management of a non-profit.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate the organizations’ mission and vision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with governmental agencies, community leaders, staff, teachers, grant funders, the Board of Directors, and the public. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at time, stressful environment.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with people with diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the greater Concord area, including familiarity with and connections to the  cultural community, a plus.
  • Property and/or events management experience a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software and QuickBooks.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required, Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • At least three to five years of business administration, nonprofit or culture organization industry experience required with supervisory and leadership experience preferred.
