Overview
Come join our team of highly motivated and caring professionals in support of the Haven’s Community Food Market, assisting three other full-time staff in executing all the activities required to oversee a busy retail environment for the distribution of charitable food. This includes training and overseeing volunteers (about 15 people/day), stocking products, interacting with customers, filling orders, and helping maintain the Market’s safe and organized operations.
This position is an integral part of the Food Market team and facilitates a positive experience for both customers and volunteers. The Assistant Manager supports the Market Manager with the everyday general operations of the Market, including volunteer management, product rotation, and customer order fulfillment.
The ideal candidate is an energetic people person, highly organized, detail-oriented, and has strong verbal communication skills and is looking to settle in for at least a year. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable taking the lead on training and overseeing volunteers, pivoting when needed, and adept at multi-tasking. The ability to be keenly aware of your surroundings is key.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of reliable attendance, proactive communication, and executing sound judgment and composure in sometimes stressful and urgent situations. This position requires the ability to offer compassionate but firm guidance to both volunteers and customers, and to comfortably and professionally interact with people from a wide range of social, economic, cultural, and religious backgrounds. This position also requires the ability to be on your feet for 8 hours a day, regularly lifting 20-50 lbs, and working in and out of the walk-in cooler and freezer.
Compensation & Benefits
The pay rate is $24/hour. It's an on-site full-time position, Monday through Friday. Our
benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, paid holidays,
over five weeks paid time off, life insurance, long term disability insurance and a matching 403(b) retirement plan. We invest in the growth and development of our staff with a role-based, funded learning and development plan.
Requirements
- Must be able to be on one’s feet for several hours at a time
- Must be able to lean, stretch, reach, crouch, and other physical motions required in stocking and cleaning the Market
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds regularly
Qualifications
- Two or more years of grocery, retail, or hospitality experience
- Experience with produce, inventory management, and product rotation
- Experience training, overseeing, and working alongside staff or volunteers
