Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter (NSKS) provides food, shelter, and related services to vulnerable individuals and families in the Greater Nashua Region in a dignified and sustainable manner with the goal of helping clients on the path to economic security and stable housing. Our services include a soup kitchen and food pantry, an emergency shelter for families and individuals, assistance in seeking and retaining employment and housing, education and training, emergency financial assistance, and a wide range of other programs.

For more than 40 years, the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter has been providing emergency services to very low-income individuals and families in the Greater Nashua area. Over that time, we’ve developed a strong reputation for compassionate service that respects the dignity and aspirations for everyone involved in the provision of care, especially those receiving care, while remaining flexible to meet the changing needs of our communities.

Communications Manager

Position Summary:

The Communications Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and managing internal and external communications to support the mission and visibility of the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter. This role is instrumental in telling our story, expanding our reach, and ensuring consistent messaging across all channels. The ideal candidate is a strategic communicator, creative content creator, and collaborative team player who thrives in a mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications & Branding

  • Develop and implement an integrated communications and marketing plan.
  • Manage brand voice and ensure consistency across all platforms (print, digital, internal signage).
  • Lead organizational storytelling through newsletters, impact stories, social media, and press materials.

Content Creation & Digital Marketing

  • Create engaging content for digital platforms, annual appeals, newsletters, email campaigns, and print materials.
  • Maintain and regularly update the organization’s website and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Develop graphics using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar software.
  • Work closely with staff to support internal messaging and team-wide initiatives.
  • Create internal signage, build graphics, and other communication assets.
  • Support events through promotional efforts and on-site coordination.

Media & Community Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with local media outlets and community partners.
  • Draft and distribute press releases and media advisories.
  • Support community outreach events and represent the organization as needed.
  • Track local and state legislation that directly impacts the organization’s mission.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication protocols in coordination with leadership.

Development & Fundraising Support

  • Collaborate with the Director of Development on fundraising appeals and donor communications.
  • Analyze communication campaign performance to guide improvements.
  • Participate in campaign planning and marketing for major events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a communications or marketing role, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing platforms, SEO, analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics), and CMS platforms.
  • Proficiency in Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Team-oriented with a flexible and proactive mindset.
  • Comfortable juggling multiple projects and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in human services, homelessness, housing, or nonprofit advocacy.
  • Working knowledge of CRM or donor management systems (e.g., Salesforce, DonorPerfect, Raisers Edge, etc.).
  • Multilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Experience coordinating in-person events.
