Executive Director

Homeless Center For Strafford County

We are an emergency shelter in Rochester NH providing emergency shelter, housing, employment counseling, learning programming with a comprehensive two generational approach to alleviating homelessness in Strafford County.  We service up to 22 children and adults in family units on any given day.  We have a strong volunteer force and dedicated staff that work night and day in this human service environment.  We are open 24/7 from October through May of each year.  Our board of directors is comprised of business members from our community with strong desire to help their neighbors by providing the building blocks to self sufficient family units living in permanent housing situations.  

 


The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall management of the organization, including resource allocation, and business operations. The ED establishes clear goals and direction for the organization, and inspires and leads a small, diverse team of experienced individuals, along with a slate of part-time volunteers. The ED advises and informs the Board of Directors, and champions the organization’s vision, goals, and values. The ED works for the Board of Directors reporting to the Chair of the Board, and supervises the Program Manager, Fund Developer, Intake Counselor, Aftercare Coordinator, Volunteers, and Night/Weekend Staff members.

Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's in Non-Profit leadership, Public Policy, or Healthcare Management, along with three years of senior leadership and a proven track record of overseeing a non-profit 501c3 is preferred.
  • A background overseeing complex operations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft and Google Drive platforms or software, Knowledge of cloud-based computer storage and security.
  • Experience in fundraising, including planning, prospect engagement and solicitation, donor stewardship, and grants.
  • Solid knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and financial procedures.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to speak to a variety of audiences.
  • Must be analytical, a systems thinker and innovator; must be a self-starter.

Physical Demands:

The position requires an ability to sit for long periods of time up to three hours at a time. The ability to lift 50 pounds infrequently and 20 pounds frequently. The ability to operate phone and computer equipment. The ability to operate residential cleaning equipment and sort goods. The ability to grasp, pull push physical items.

Responsibilities:
  • Drafts an annual budget to present to the board for approval. Effectively manages resources within budget guidelines by tracking the organization’s performance against budget. Reviews the monthly financial report for discussion at the monthly meeting. Updates the Board on programs and funding; communicates any issues with the potential to significantly affect the organization and its mission.
  • Oversees maintenance of facility and grounds.
  • Schedules Staff, submits payroll, and provides all Human Resource functions for the organization.
  • Participates on board committees as appropriate.
  • Ensures the organization is compliant with relevant nonprofit regulations and is accurate and transparent in all its records and documents.
  • Ensures all grant reports are submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures the annual and five-year compliance materials are filed with the State of New Hampshire as per applicable filing schedules.
  • Complies with GAAP principles and financial Guidelines in addition to all HCSC policies.
