NHAN Project Lead

Southeastern Regional Education Service Center

The Southeastern Regional Education Service Center, (SERESC), is a nonprofit educational service agency located in Bedford, NH. SERESC’s mission is to find innovative solutions for the student and systems-level challenges of New Hampshire’s K-12 schools, as well as its preschool and afterschool programs.  Since 1974, New Hampshire’s schools and families have relied on SERESC to provide customized educational and therapeutic services to students, and high quality professional development to educators.  

SERESC is the fiscal sponsor for the New Hampshire Afterschool Network.  NHAN is advised by a dedicated team of NH Afterschool stakeholders and professionals to promote quality out of school time programming and bring awareness to the important role Afterschool plays for NH youth and families.

NHAN connects afterschool programs with the resources they need to provide high-quality afterschool programming.

NHAN advocates for New Hampshire out-of-school time programming at the local, state and national level.

NHAN influences public policy encouraging support for afterschool funding at the state and national level to ensure all youth in New Hampshire have access to high-quality afterschool programming.


New Hampshire Afterschool Network (NHAN) is a fiscally sponsored organization thru SERESC and managed by a dedicated team of NH afterschool stakeholders and professionals to promote quality out of school time programming and bring awareness to the important role afterschool plays for NH youth and families. Our mission is to actively support the development, sustainability, and accessibility of high quality afterschool experiences for NH youth. 

 

Role of the Network Lead

The Network Lead is responsible for providing leadership, vision, and financial sustainability for NHAN. Under the direction of the NHAN Steering Committee, the Network Lead leverages relationships across the public and private sector to advance policies and to generate funding to support the mission and activities of the organization. They are responsible for building and maintaining the brand of the organization, while achieving shared and measurable goals for the common good of the out-of-school time sector.

Compensation

A competitive compensation package will be provided to the selected final candidate based on their prior experience and qualifications. (Salary range budgeted for this role is $55,000 – $65,000.)

Requirements:

● Effective listening and strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to speak and represent NHAN publicly.

● Grant writing and management experience.

● Strong people skills and an ability to relate to diverse groups and individuals.

● Ability to work independently and collaboratively

● Management skills, with an emphasis on team building and a collaborative approach.

● Dedication to system change to benefit children and youth.

● Several years’ experience in the area of policy development, advocacy, afterschool programming, education, and/or coalition and network building.

● Bachelor’s degree in child and youth development, education, communications, public policy, public administration, social work, or a related field.

 

IDEAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

● Meeting facilitation and negotiation skills.

● Experience working with Advisory Committees.

● Familiarity with statewide policy and budget development, afterschool programs and practices, grassroots advocacy and organizing, and state agency practices.

● Media and communications experience.

Responsibilities:

The primary job competencies include:

Leadership & Governance

▪ Work with the Steering Committee to fulfill NHAN’s mission, and to develop a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization.

▪ Build and maintain ongoing relationships with the state legislature and administration.

▪ Identify and engage in strategic partnerships and collaborations to advance the priorities of the field and the organization.

▪ Lead, coordinate and oversee the network’s initiatives and operations, including policy development and field projects.

▪ Foster effective teamwork among the Steering Committee, staff, and work committees.

▪ Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work.

Community Relations & Advocacy

▪ Conduct policy and field research as needed to support the development of the network’s initiatives, including legislation, state budget requests, school-community partnership initiatives, etc. Work with experts and stakeholders in the field to help form the network’s initiatives and to maintain a working knowledge of significant trends in the field. Connect the needs, concerns and issues of schools, the afterschool field, and communities to the development of new policy initiatives.

▪ Publicize and promote the activities of the organization, its programs, and goals. This includes overseeing communication among the statewide network regarding best practices, policy, and advocacy information, and broadening the statewide network by forming effective relationships with community groups, school leaders, funders, businesses, and other organizations.

▪ Collaborate with ACROSS NH and other Out of School Time (OST) stakeholders to support the Afterschool Professional Development System.

▪ Work with key stakeholders nationally, including Afterschool Technical Assistance Team (ATAC) and the Network Leads in other states to assist in the development of the Statewide Afterschool Networks. Serve as the state point organization for the Afterschool Alliance to support national policy efforts.

▪ Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public; represent NHAN at community activities to enhance the status of NHAN’s community profile, including through presentations.

Financial Performance & Viability

▪ Increase the network’s sustainability, including working with the Steering Committee to develop a strategic plan, build relationships with both public and private funders, develop fundraising strategies, and write grants.

▪ Maintain the fiscal integrity of NHAN, including development of an annual budget and monthly financial statements submitted to NHAN’s fiscal sponsor.

▪ Operate within the approved budget and monitor monthly cash flow, ensuring maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.

Operational Planning & Management

▪ Develop and implement an operational plan, policies, and procedures that incorporates goals and objectives that aligns with the strategic direction of the network and expectations of the Steering Committee, Mott Foundation, and other funders.

▪ Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the project, as well as the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the project’s programs, events, and services.
