Family Support Counselor

The Upper Room, A Family Resource Center

The Upper Room, A Family Resource Center located in Derry, NH is a 501C(3) non-profit organization, committed to creating educational programs and services to strengthen individuals, families and the community.   Founded in 1986, our organization has provided support, services, education and resources to all who inquire.  Our center is a warm and welcoming place, striving to foster a sense of belonging, connection and purpose, while providing information and guidance to strengthen children and families, and build a stronger community.

Job Purpose: Provide comprehensive support, case management, parent education and services to strengthen individuals and  families, through services, education and skills building. Using family strengthening concepts help families and individuals build upon existing ideas and networks.

  • Hold a degree in education/counseling, social work preferred.
  • Prior experience/knowledge of Substance Misuse Strategies and Trauma Informed Practices desired.
  • Experience and familiarity with accessing local resources.
  • Experience doing intake and case management services.
  • Understanding of family systems preferred.
  • Ability to set strong professional/boundaries.
  • Attention to detail a must.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Provide direct support to individuals and families through intakes/ case management home visiting, assessment and parent education to identify needs, and to provide support and solutions  to their families.  Seek resources and services that meet the needs of involved families.
  • Create goals, and service plans which address needs of families/individuals. 
  • Develop new partnership program with Next Charter School which will support enrolled families. (10 hours per week at NEXT Charter School site to offer similar parenting support)  
  • Parent Education, intake, referrals to appropriate programs and facilitation of groups as needed.
  • Work with TUR programs and other agencies to identify resources and services for families.  
  • Complete all reporting documents, attendance sheets, data entry, case notes.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Follow evidence-based practices that support principles of Family Resource Centers.
  • Support the organization through a team approach, working collaboratively.
