Director of Community Relations

University of New Hampshire

Shoals Marine Laboratory at the University of New Hampshire (and co-operated by Cornell University) is looking for a new member to join our dynamic and passionate team as the Director of Community Relations. This position cultivates and advances meaningful relationships with our donors and community. Applicants should be motivated to develop and implement plans to increase awareness, engagement, and support for the Shoals Marine Laboratory’s mission and programs. This position reports directly to and works closely with the Executive Director to perform duties. The role is a varied one that combines elements of relationship building, stakeholder management, fundraising, and supervising the communication coordinator. Requirements:

The key responsibility of the Director of Community Relations (DCR) is to cultivate and advance meaningful relationships with our donors and community. Applicants should be motivated to develop and implement plans to increase awareness, engagement, and support for the Shoals Marine Laboratory’s (SML) mission and programs. The DCR reports directly to and works closely with the Executive Director (ED) to perform duties. The role is a varied one that combines elements of relationship building, stakeholder management, fundraising, and supervising the communication coordinator. This position will partner with SML leadership to carry out and track progress of the 2018-2028 SML Strategic Plan.

 

Duties include managing donor relations, cultivation events, fundraising collateral, public speaking, and as well as developing public relations strategies that will promote the organization’s mission. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must, along with organization, attention to detail, and proven fundraising and communications expertise. Overnight time on Appledore Island is required in the summer. Travel and evening events are to be expected.
