Volunteer Coordinator

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Hampshire

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Hampshire provides early child care, afterschool programs, summer day camps and basketball leagues to youth throughout the central New Hampshire area including Concord and Laconia areas. Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who most need us, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.  We offer a safe place to belong, caring adult mentors and programs covering everything from academics and leadership development to physical fitness and healthy habits.

This is a new position, directly reporting to the Human Resources Director. The Volunteer Coordinator position is responsible for coordinating volunteer recruitment, screening, and training for all Club volunteers based on set policies for high-access and low-access volunteers. May assist with other duties within the HR department. Previous HR experience is a plus.

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • A minimum of two to three years' work experience in a service organization, with emphasis on volunteer programs and activities.
  • Previous experience in human resources field preferred.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and be flexible.
  • Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, both written and orally, with employees, members of the management team, volunteers, in group presentations and meetings.
  • Must be willing to travel between locations when requested. (Only occasional travel may be required.)
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and must be able to improve performance through feedback.
  • All of the candidates that are offered a job with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central New Hampshire will have to submit for an FBI fingerprint background check and submit to a background check through the State of NH Criminal Records Dept. and FirstAdvantage. Note: The State of NH Childcare Licensing Bureau may prohibit you from being employed by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Hampshire should there be a disqualifying finding on your criminal record. In addition, even if the State of NH reviews your records and allows you to work at the Club, we still reserve the right to determine your employment status.

-Recruits and assists with interviewing potential volunteers. Provides regular orientation to volunteer policies and practices of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central NH. Provides training to directors on effective volunteer management and selection.

-Coordinates administrative and operational systems to support volunteer programs; directly responsible for maintaining volunteer files and ensuring that background checks and other licensing and BGCA requirements are met. Tracks and informs volunteers when updated documents are needed.

-Reviews and recommends policies and procedures for volunteer recruitment, selection, and training. Sits on Policies and Procedures Committee.

-Identifies potential volunteer sources and develops proactive strategies to recruit volunteers with the skills needed by Club programs and activities.

-Works with the Human Resources Director and Staff Development Coordinator on developing training and recognition opportunities for volunteers.

-Develops collaborative relationships with other organizations supporting volunteerism. Acts as liaison with neighborhood and community groups to enhance Club and community relations.

-May assist Special Events Manager coordinate volunteer involvement during special events.

-Performs other administrative tasks such as answering the phone, filing, using the photocopier, etc.

-Performs periodic file audits to ensure that all required documentation is collected and maintained.

-Must be able to create contracts/memorandums of understanding (MOU's) with partnering organizations, and submit for approval by CEO, board and/or Human Resources Director.

-Keeps all information confidential.

-Performs other tasks as assigned, cross-trains into HR functions.

This is a full-time (30 hour), non-exempt position. We are temporarily offering a sign-on bonus of $500.00.
