As Associate State Director, Advocacy you will develop and implement AARP’s statewide Outreach and Local Advocacy plans for the state of New Hampshire. You will work with staff and volunteers to plan and implement a robust and innovative outreach, engagement and education strategy with activities that cultivate effective community partnerships (across sectors) and develop volunteer leaders. 

Requirements:

•    Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Political Science, Public Administration, Law , and/or Non-Profit Management, Marketing and Public Relations, or a related discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position. 

•    Ability to travel up to 20%. Night and weekend hours as required to meet state office needs.
•    Understanding of community organizing, communications, legislative advocacy, marketing and public relations.
•    Social media and writing skills and the ability to tell a cohesive story with the support of AARP New Hampshire’s Communications Team, through visual elements; and familiarity with new media platforms.
•    Must be comfortable with (and using) data, data analytics, electronic systems and all facets of technology, whether existing or emergent. 

Responsibilities:

As Associate State Director, Advocacy you will:
•    Build and maintain strong, productive relationships with state and local legislators, key appointed officials and their staff as well as Members of Congress district office staff (as necessary) to build and maintain a non-partisan stance with respect to candidates, incumbents, political parties and public events.
•    Lead voter engagement / education efforts and campaigns in close consultation with state office staff.  Build, maintain, and nurture relationships with statewide coalitions and groups having a similar focus on aging and related issues.  Plan and execute integrated advocacy campaigns that include grassroots and key contacts mobilization, lobbying, community resources and organization, policy expertise, and political knowledge in support of AARP legislative goals at the national as well as community and state level. 
•    Expand regional awareness of AARP New Hampshire and its priorities among community and public policy leaders.  Identify and position AARP as a critical voice for the 50+ and their families.  
•    Recruit and manage volunteer leaders while building volunteer teams to develop a meaningful organization of involved and active volunteers and citizen activists, often broken down into sub-teams and working with volunteer leads and co-leads.
•    Make presentations at workshops and conferences, as appropriate.  Work with statewide volunteers on primary issues, community outreach, and legislative and regulatory efforts. Ensure AARP is seen as a visible force in community outreach and public policy development by educating staff, volunteers, members, government and elected officials, and the public, including the private sector and foundation community (funders). 
•    Represent AARP before local elected officials and policy makers.  Focus on active engagement and involvement of members who are impacted by the issue at hand.
