Childcare Center Director

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization established in 1965 under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. We work with community, state and federal partners to assist children, families, low-income and elderly residents with their efforts to become or remain financially and socially independent through a variety of coordinated programs. Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, shelter and access to other services.

The Center Director is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and quality of education for all children within the center’s care. The Center Director is directly accountable for overall operational management in accordance with well-established guidelines, including curriculum development, staff management, budgetary considerations and long range planning.

Responsibilities and Duties

Program Management

· Assumes responsibility for the center’s day-to-day operations.

· Establishes developmentally appropriate curriculum based on Creative Curriculum.

· Oversees teachers in planning and implementing Creative Curriculum and appropriate supplemental curriculums.

· Ensures appropriate room arrangement and curriculum for all age groups.

· Manage adherence to quality standards in accordance with the vision and state / local requirements. Ensures that all services offered through the center meet or exceed Licensing Plus quality guidelines.

· Ensures that services are offered in accordance with NH licensing requirements, safety policies and procedures.

· Offers presentations on a variety of childcare training topics.

· Responds effectively to crisis situations.

· Successfully markets the center to targeted groups.

· Confers with parents regarding facility activities, policies and enrollment procedures.

· Performs classroom teaching duties during absence of regular teacher.

· Frequent observations of classrooms offering training and technical assistance where needed.

Family and Community Relationships

· Maintains positive communication with parents of enrolled and prospective students through newsletters, notices, parent handbook and day to day interactions.

· Ensures staff maintains confidentiality and a gossip-free environment.

· Supports staff in maintaining effective communication with parents.

· Mediates concerns between parents and teachers.

· Maintains communication with regulatory agencies.

· Promotes a positive community relationship with agencies and organizations offering services (e.g. DHHS, DCYF, Resource and Referral, NH State Licensing and schools).

· Maintains a positive and productive attitude regarding the Center and the CAP Agency when interacting both within the program and with the greater community.

· Markets the center to targeted groups to ensure full enrollment.

· Commitment to actively supporting Family Engagement and School Readiness.

· Actively participates in relevant professional organizations.

Financial Management

· Works with the Center Manager to ensure accurate billing and timely receivables for the center.

· Prepares and revises center budget in collaboration with Child and Family Services Director.

· Proactively suggests program adjustments based on current budget performance.

· Tracks program utilization for optimum program performance including enrollment and outstanding payments.

· Responsible for filling vacancies and ensuring full enrollment of the center.

Staff Management

· Provides for the recruitment, interview and selection of center staff in conjunction with the Child & Family Services Director and HR Department.

· Prepare weekly staff schedule to ensure adequate staff to child ratios based on Child Care Licensing standards.

· Conducts all employee discipline in accordance with CAPSC standards.

· Performs annual evaluations on or before staff anniversary dates.

· Effectively delegates responsibilities to team members.

· Provides for and maintains records of staff training, orientation, and meetings as dictated by personnel policies, contractors, and licensors.

· Approves staff timesheets, expense reports, mileage reports and other employee action forms. Coordinates staff time off.

· Identifies agenda items for monthly building meetings in conjunction with the Center Manager and staff.

Qualifications and Skills

· Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or documentation demonstrating qualifications as a Center Director per NH Childcare Licensing guidelines.

· Documentation of at least 3 credits in child care administration or early childhood leadership and supervision awarded by a regionally accredited college or university.

· Minimum of 1500 hours experience working with children in a licensed child care program or public / private elementary school.

· At least three (3) years of related experience, including at least two (2) years supervisory experience preferably as a Center Director or similar role.

· Advanced computer literacy including: Excel, Word, and Outlook.

· Current or ability to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
