Early Childhood Teacher Aide

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization established in 1965 under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. We work with community, state and federal partners to assist children, families, low-income and elderly residents with their efforts to become or remain financially and socially independent through a variety of coordinated programs. Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, shelter and access to other services.

This position requires split shifts: Monday - Friday 6:30am-8:00am & 2:30pm-5:00pm

General Description

Assists / provides coverage for Teacher in providing a daily schedule of activities for play, meals, sleep, and toileting, responsible for the health and safety of children in a childcare setting.


· High School Diploma or GED

· Early Childhood Education credits preferred, but not required.

· Prior experience working with children in a licensed childcare program.

· Interest and desire to interact and work with young children and adults.

· Commitment to continue professional development and pursing teacher qualification

· Reliable source of transportation, with insurance (100/300 liability minimum).

· Computer Literate including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

· Current or able to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.

· Able to lift 25-40 lbs.

Duties and Repsonsibilities

· Assists the childcare center in carrying out curriculum, as set forth by classroom teachers. Assists in daily activities, assisting children with daily routines such as meals, bathroom time, rest time, preparing to go outdoors, and other transitional times. Assists in maintaining room cleanliness and upkeep.

· Communicates with classroom staff, seeks out assistance when unsure of a procedure or a particular situation.

· Actively engages with children. Assists and redirects them as needed.

· Greets parents at arrival and/or pick up. Refers any concerns parents may have to the Lead Teacher in classroom

· Follows the schedule set by Lead Teacher.

· Assists with monthly emergency practice drills.

· Attends building meetings and in-service training.

· Assists in maintaining an exciting classroom learning environment for children.

· Reports any problems to the Lead Teacher or Center Director.

· Maintains a positive and productive attitude regarding the Center and the CAP Agency when interacting both within the program and with the greater community.

· Performs other duties as required.
