Community Action Partnership of Strafford County

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization established in 1965 under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. We work with community, state and federal partners to assist children, families, low-income and elderly residents with their efforts to become or remain financially and socially independent through a variety of coordinated programs. Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, shelter and access to other services.

The Opportunity

The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) position reports to and works closely with the Chief Executive Officer.  This is an executive management position responsible for building relationships and linkages to various donors, partners and systems.  The position is responsible for developing the strategy for development, corporate and community engagement. In addition, this position oversees the coordination of community activities, community relations (including media relations initiatives, community engagement and fund development activities), and agency events.   Effective performance requires a high degree of independent judgment, excellent communication skills and the ability to function under the established policies, procedures and practices with minimal supervision.

The CAO have primary responsibility for overseeing all fundraising and communication initiatives as part of a $13.5 million budget.  This includes expanding and diversifying CAPSC’s donor base/pipeline, the solicitation of major gifts, grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and partner with the CEO and board members on all major development initiatives
  • Create and implement a comprehensive advancement program that includes major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, foundation giving and corporate support, grants, communications and special events
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with the community, donors, sponsors, and funders
  • Establish and enhance partnerships with agency leaders, community leaders and businesses to further the mission and vision CAPSC
  • Assist with monitoring and analyzing budgets to ensure fiscal plan is met; makes recommendations to CEO for plan corrections as necessary
  • Responds decisively and expeditiously to staff issues requiring immediate attention
  • Research and write grants and cultivate funders using a relationship-management approach
  • Keep up to date with funding opportunities and trends to align CAPSC with major corporate and foundation support.
  • Ensure the proper gift entry and tracking and donor information in Raiser’s Edge; provide analysis to CEO and senior leaders
  • Actively participates in professional organizations that will advance the growth and visibility of CAPSC.
  • Develop content for communications – newsletters, annual report, major donor executive updates, etc.
  • Ensure that all special events are planned and executed to advance CAPSC’s development and communications growth

 

Qualifications

  • 5-plus years of progressive development experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in growing philanthropic revenue year over year
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with major donors, board members, corporations and foundations
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
  • Goal and action-oriented and able to take the initiative without close supervision
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
  • Comfortable being a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside CAPSC
  • High energy and passion for CAPSC’s mission is essential
  • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience managing staff
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends
  • Bachelor’s degree required
