Concord Community Music School

The Concord Community Music School serves more than 1000 individuals each week with educational and therapeutic services, age six months through 96 years, through its educational programs, public events, and community partnerships with human service, healthcare, and education partners.  An exceptional faculty of 50 teaching artists teach and perform classical, folk, jazz and world music.

Celebrating its 36th anniversary this year, strong community support has made possible the School’s success, with 50% of its $1.6 million annual budget contributed by individuals, foundations, businesses, and government agencies.   Recognition, through highly competitive national awards, has come from such major funders as the National Endowment for the Arts, Jane’s Trust, and the Kresge, Hearst and Wallace Foundations. The Concord Community Music School, a non-profit arts organization seeks a dedicated, personable, well-organized and motivated individual for the position of evening receptionist to handle client-facing duties as well as general office tasks. When our students, faculty and administrative staff enter our building, we want them to be greeted by a warm, friendly face and a helping hand. The ideal candidate has excellent communication and multi-tasking skills, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.

This is a part-time position with hours scheduled on weekly basis, and as needed to cover the reception desk when the Music School’s Registrar & Audience Services Manager is out of the office. Additional work shifts may be scheduled in advance for planned special events, and shifts include evenings and weekends.

Position is part-time and non-exempt. Regular hours are 4:30-9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Reports to the Registrar & Audience Services Manager.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ability to welcome all staff, students and visitors warmly and create a positive impression of the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy location with frequent interruptions.
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to problem solve and react quickly to changing priorities.
  • Experience with payment processing programs and student database software desired.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and serve as reception to faculty, staff, students, student families and the public (in person, via phone or via email). Be courteous, polite and helpful at all times when representing the Music School.
  • Provide efficient and professional telephone services; transfer calls according to established protocols. Check phone messages frequently and route inquiries to the appropriate staff person.
  • Answer questions as appropriate.
  • Assist staff and faculty with office tasks, including data entry, filing, copying, student registration, preparing mailings, and other tasks as requested.
  • Collect payment of tickets, tuition or workshops as requested by students or patrons, processing credit card payments via PayPal virtual terminal.
  • Assure the readiness of the reception area for each working day; have all front desk activities fully operational for the start of next business day.
  • Secure the building at the close of each working day; turn off or unplug appliances and machines according to protocols and lock all entrances.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range:

Hourly pay is $15 per hour, possibly negotiable; commensurate with experience.
