Hotline Crisis Counselor

Headrest supports individuals and their families, friends and neighbors affected by substance use, navigating recovery, or in crisis, by providing effective programs and treatment options that support prevention and long- term recovery.  Headrest will never turn anyone away.


Brief Position Description:

This Hotline Counselor advances Headrest’s mission by providing crisis intervention, information and referral and suicide prevention services on the 24/7 Hotline. This position also provides support services to people in recovery who are in the residential program.

Goals and Objectives:

Provide crisis intervention, information and referral and suicide prevention services to callers, walk-ins and residents according to Headrest program standards.
Provide assistance and support to Residential Services.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience in crisis intervention, suicide prevention, addictions treatment or other human services field preferred, but not required.
  • Completion of the Hotline Training Program or evidence of equivalent training.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in crisis situations.
  • Physical Requirements:  Ability to climb stairs (safety drills, etc.); lift and carry up to 25 pounds. 
Responsibilities:

 Hotline Counseling

Provide active listening, information and referral, crisis intervention services to all callers to the 24/7 Crisis Hotline. 
Conduct phone screenings for individuals seeking other Headrest services (residential and outpatient counseling).
Review previous contacts and conduct follow-up calls as necessary.
Assists in maintaining and enhancing Hotline resources in collaboration with the Hotline Manager.

Residential and Administrative Support

Residential program:  In collaboration with the Residential Case Managers, helps monitor residents’ behavior, supports enforcement of house rules and communications with Residential Services.
Participate in regular building safety measures including fire drills, nightly Room Checks
Functions as a receptionist for the agency including granting access to approved visitors, sending and receiving mail/packages on behalf of the organization.
Maintains timely and accurate documentation of all client contact according to Headrest policies.
Maintains the cleanliness of the Hotline Office.

Other Duties

Headrest is a service organization with a relatively small number of employees, requiring flexibility and cooperation among all staff.  Employees will need to complete other duties as assigned in order to provide quality community services.

Salary Range:

$16.00-$24.00 DOE
