Southwestern Community Services (SCS), one of New Hampshire’s five community action agencies, has served the needs of Cheshire and Sullivan County citizens since 1965. SCS is a tax-exempt non-profit organization whose vision is to create and support a climate where poverty is never accepted as a chronic or permanent condition of any person’s life. SCS works to maintain awareness of the needs of the people in our communities. We provide a comprehensive range of services and advocacy programs—from housing to nutrition to education and more. Our programs are designed to have a measurable impact on poverty by covering the needs of children, families, and the elderly.

Southwestern Community Services is seeking bookkeeper with housing accounts payable and accounts receivable experience.  This is a full-time, hourly, professional position located in our Keene office.

Position requires the ability to process accounts payable and receivables for SCS elderly, senior, workforce and affordable housing properties.  This includes data entry, cash management, tenant rent posting and general ledger posting.

Works collaboratively with other members of the Fiscal team and the Property Management department.  Logical thinking, effective communication, managing multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is a must.  Utilizing Financial Edge, PaperSave, Genesis and Microsoft Office.  Reliable vehicle with vehicle insurance is required.

The Cook is responsible for the daily production of nutritious, child-friendly meals which meet the requirements of the Child and Adult Care Food Program.  Under the supervision of the Head Start Health/Nutrition Services Manager, the cook produces breakfast and lunch daily for 17-34 children (depending on the size of the Head Start Center) and 3-10 staff.  Primary responsibilities include weekly grocery shopping, cooking, record keeping, kitchen organization and cleaning, training of kitchen volunteers, and supporting classroom nutrition and cooking activities. The Cook also attends and participates in weekly staff meetings and contributes to the overall success of the Head Start Center team. 

  • Must pass NH State License Quick Check and must pass finger printing and criminal record check before hire.
  • Certification in child first aid and CPR (program will provide upon hire)
  • SERV Safe Safety and Sanitation Certification preferred 
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED.•
  • Certification in child first aid and CPR (program will provide upon hire)
  • Valid New Hampshire driver’s license, current adequate car insurance, proof of car insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and able to lift up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Maintain records and reports
  • Possession of basic skills and knowledge of quantity food production, including shopping, menu planning, record keeping, and food safety & sanitation 
  •  Ability to prepare nutritious, child-friendly meals
  • Ability to keep up with current developments and trends in nutrition and cooking.  May be acquired through academic, apprenticeship, or on the job training or a combination of these
  • Positive attitude a must
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure of deadlines for meal delivery.
  • Ability to follow instructions through a standard work process. Ability to check work for accuracy before completion of tasks
