Kitchen Assistant

Cross Roads House

Cross Roads House provides shelter, meals, basic needs, and supportive services to homeless individuals and families in the Greater Seacoast area. We provide both emergency shelter and a transitional shetler program to help our residents move with dignity and purpose to stable and decent housing. 

**$100 Sign on Bonus After 30 Days**

Scheduled Hours: Friday – Sunday with a possibility of one or two other week nights –Flexible Hours

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Kitchen Coordinator, this position is responsible food preparation, washing dishes and appliances, sweeping and mopping floors, and restocking items, performing other tasks to ensure that the kitchen and dining areas are cleaned and prepared.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team.
  • Ability to work independently as needed to support the group effort.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning products or willing to learn.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six months or more related experience.

Working Environment:

The work is performed in a 24/7 Emergency Homeless Shelter with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities and abilities.

Physical Demands:

The work requires routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items weighing less than fifty pounds. Moving items over fifty pounds utilizes a team lift. This job description is not an employment agreement or contract. Management has the exclusive right to alter the scope of work within the framework of this job description at any time without prior notice.


Daily job responsibilities/functions to include, but not limited to

  • Food preparation
  • Simple cooking
  • Dishwashing
  • Clean sinks, countertops, microwaves, and refrigerators.
  • Empty all trash cans and replace liners, clean receptacles as necessary.
  • Various kitchen tasks including running /maintaining the dishwasher and restocking/ organizing the food pantry/ supplies in appropriate storage area
