Position Summary   

The Junior Staff Accountant is responsible for providing support to accounting department activities with specific responsibility for the processing, recording, updating, maintaining schedules and reconciling fiscal information to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.

Serve as back up for accounts payable and general ledger duties for Gateways Community Services, The PLUS Company, Area Agency Properties and Rep Payee.  Assist with the preparation for and during the annual audit. Apply principles of accounting to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • B.S. or higher degree in accounting or related field
  • Minimum 2 years accounting experience
  • Possess reliable cell phone and internet access from a remote (non-Gateways) location
  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Must be efficient, accurate, dependable and able to prioritize work
  • Requires utmost trust and confidentiality
  • Demonstrate team communications and collaboration skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows environment including working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook 
  • Prior Accounting Software exposure; Microsoft Dynamics; Solomon preferred
  • Communicate constructively to management and staff on problems, ideas or any other insights to assist in defining new best operational practices.
  • Possess reliable transportation, valid drivers’ license and applicable vehicle insurance for business travel
  • Prepare and process Accounts Payable for assigned company (AP PLUS)
    • Prepares and processes accounts payable invoices for payment 
    • Prints and distributes checks
    • Maintains accounts payable vendor files and ledgers
    • Maintains positive communication with all vendors and staff
    • Monitors cash flow on a weekly basis 
    • Monitors spending reports
    • Responsible for month-end close and year-end reconciliations
  • Work in collaboration with Consumer Directed Services (CDS) to enter line item changes for CDS budgets; 
  • Produce and export CDS monthly statements for distribution
  • Prepare and enter journal entries as needed.
  • Back-up coverage for all accounts payable and general ledger functions for all business units to provide support during vacations and overflow periods.
  • Back-up coverage for Fiscal Management new client set up and payroll approval to provide support during vacations and overflow periods.
  • Maintain signed VMS fee agreements and periodically update VMS records.
  • Continually strive for improved efficiency in workflow and communication.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end reconciliations for audit preparation.

non exempt , hourly rate range $17.31 to $18.00
