Full-Charge Bookkeeper

Requirements/ Skills: Accuracy, attention to detail and financial aptitude. Must be able to efficiently use QuickBooks and must be proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Docs & Sheets.   Knowledge of construction & Non-Profit accounting is a plus. Must be able to handle General Ledger responsibilities, payroll regulations and month-end closing. The position requires the candidate to work independently and effectively with a diverse group of people. The position requires broad responsibility in a small transaction non-profit organization.


Bookkeeping—responsible for all general ledger accounting processes and supervision of a volunteer who performs some of these tasks

  •  Maintain chart of accounts and proper accounting records 

  • Oversee volunteer A/P staff person

  •  Record deposits into General Journal 

  •  Process all payments and expenses in General Journal, prepare checks and/or online banking payment, assure prompt payment and discount use 

  •  Prepare all month-end adjusting journal entries 

  •  Reconcile G/L account balances with SALSA (donations software) 

  •  Prepare monthly asset and liability account reconciliations 

  •  Monitor/handle all issues involving credit cards including compliance with  Payment Card Industry standards and merchant services. 

  •  Monitor internal controls and develop additional controls where needed 


Payroll—responsible for working with payroll service and accounting for processed  payroll 

  • Manage relationship with payroll service—ensure proper reporting and tax  deposits  

  • Supply payroll service with bi-weekly payroll information 

  • Maintain employee payroll records—updates, new employees, 

  • Ensure compliance with all payroll changes and regulations

  •  Record payroll in General Journal 

  •  Responsible for accuracy of employee deductions for garnishment requirements 

Financial Reporting—responsible for monthly, annual and special reporting  • Generate monthly financial statements 

• Assist in preparation of financial documentation, as needed, for grant funders 

• Prepare quarterly /TITHE for Habitat International

• Prepare information for annual independent audit and Form 990

• Annual budget preparation 

• Prepare reports for directors as needed, such as Cost of Builds, Budget  Performance Reports, Functional Expense analysis, etc. 

• Assist treasurer with preparation of board information 

• Various record keeping activities/monitoring of various business accounts (i.e.  charge cards, insurance etc) 

Cash/Asset Management—responsible for monitoring cash needs, and maintaining  external contacts 

• Maintain banking and credit card relationships 

• Maintain employee credit card access, limits, reporting and documentation 

• Manage checking accounts, assuring proper balances. 


Insurance – prepare renewal applications with help of Exec Dir. for GL/Vol W/C policy, employee W/C policy and Auto policy.

Insurance audits – usually for W/C at the end of the policy year.  Prepare document package for auditor.

State of NH Annual Report / NH Charitable Trust Reports - done yearly

Assist with fundraising activities as needed and support and assist in the implementation  of strategic goals and objectives.

Salary Range:

$20.00 - $25.00 per hour depending upon experience.
