Executive Director

Great Waters Music Festival

Great Waters is a performing arts presenting organization, established in 1995. Its mission is to present high quality artists, in a variety of performing arts genres, to people living in and visiting the Lakes Region of NH during the summer months. The manner in which attendees experience the intimate social gathering  makes it memorable and a future destination. The desired long term impact is to continue to make performing arts accessible to all citizens, and support projects that reach out to communities that have limited access to the arts due to their geographic location.


Great Waters is a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting outstanding musical performances during the summer months for all who live in or visit the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.  In addition, the organization has a scholarship program that focuses on graduating high school seniors who want to pursue a degree in some aspect of musical performance, production or education. The Executive Director, as the key management leader of Great Waters, is responsible for overseeing the administration of all Great Waters' programs as well as executing the strategic plan of the organization.  The Executive Director's focus is on leadership, fundraising and finance, operations and community outreach.

The organization is governed by a dedicated, elected Board of Directors who play an active role in the organization by setting policy and planning strategically for the future. The Executive Director reports to the Chair of the Board of Directors and manages the staff including paid employees, independent contractors, and many dedicated volunteers.

Requirements:
  • Three to five years in a leadership poisition
  • Strong leadership skills in collaboration, consensus building, managing change and systems and processes
  • Strong multi-tasking organizational skills
  • Proven expertise in fundraising, finance, community engagement and marketing
  • Undergraduate or Masters Degree
  • Must either live in the Lakes Region year-round or from April through September with ability to travel during the off-season months
  • Experience with live performance production is a plus
Responsibilities:

Leadership - Participates with the Board in reviewing and implementing the organization's vision and strategic plan in order to further the mission of the organization. Fosters and expands effective, collaborative relationships among Board members, staff, donors, sponsors and the community at large.

Operational Planning and Management - Oversees the planning, implementation and evaluation of all Great Waters' activities, and monitors their execution in order to maintain or improve quality. Determines staffing and volunteer requirements for organizational management and program delivery and with oversight from the Board recruits, interviews, selects, trains and manages staff and volunteers.

Finance and Fundraising - Leads Great Waters' fundraising efforts to secure funding for the operation of the organization, including carrying a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, cultivating and stewarding prospects and donors, maintaining and growing business sponsorships, researching new funding sources and writing grant proposals. Specific performance goals and objectives for fundraising are agreed upon annually by the Board and the Executive Director. In addition, oversees the management of financial planning, forecasting, budgeting and resource allocation.

Marketing and Communications - Responsible for overseeing the implementation of the marketing plan and measuring the results. Serves as primary spokesperson for the organization and communicates with stakeholders to keep them informed of the organization's work. Establishes and maintains good working relationships with new and existing groups.

Community Outreach - Works to increase overall visibility and image of Great Waters.  Seeks opportunities to build collaborative relationships with organizations that enable Great Waters to maximize its capacity to serve its communities at large.

Programming - In conjunction with the Program Committee, coordinates efforts to build strong programs that align with the strategic vision of the organization. Works with Consultants, Agents and Talent to contract with Artists for each season.
