Bus Driver

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization established in 1965 under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. We work with community, state and federal partners to assist children, families, low-income and elderly residents with their efforts to become or remain financially and socially independent through a variety of coordinated programs. Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, shelter and access to other services.

General Description
The Senior Transportation Bus Driver will be responsible for operating the CAPSC Senior Transportation 14 passenger handicap accessible bus. Driver will transport riders from their homes to and from local grocery stores, retail stores, and pharmacies. CDL is not required for this position. Must be able to obtain NHDOT medical certificate. 

Education & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Must be at least 21 years of age. Candidate must have a valid NH Driver’s license, with an excellent safely record as well as reliable transportation and adequate vehicle liability insurance. Candidate must be able to assist riders, as necessary and appropriate, to enter and exit vehicle and/or building. Experience in transportation of individuals with assistance needs is preferred. Completion of NHDOT Passenger Assistance Techniques (PAT), Defensive Driving, and Emergency Procedures and Evacuations training preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities
 Operate 14 passenger van with a lift
 Conduct Pre-trip and Post-trip inspections of vehicle
 Schedule routine vehicle maintenance according to state regulations
 Schedule daily routes according to rider requests in an appropriate and time-effective manner, based on residence location of riders
 Transport riders to and from destinations in a safe, courteous and reliable manner
 Assist riders when entering and leaving the vehicle if needed
 Ensure that riders and any of their mobility devices are properly secured
 Collect, count and record donations received from riders
 Must be able to write legibly in the preparation of forms and reports
 Maintain logs of travel and riders accurately and in a timely manner according to state regulations
 Maintain adequate fluid/tire levels
 Keep a clean general appearance of the vehicle inside and out
 Advise passengers of rules and regulations when necessary
 Complete and submit written reports concerning passenger incidents, preventable and non-preventable collisions
 Complete training on Passenger Assist Techniques (PAT), Defensive Driving, and Emergency Procedures and Evacuations
 Drive safely and follow all company regulations and driving laws
 Report any incidents or issues to Supervisor
 Minor lifting is required, including equipment that may weigh up to 20lbs, and includes frequent lifting of mobility device restraining equipment and passenger belongings. Must be able to push and pull to assist passengers using mobility devices including up and down inclines.

 Ability to read, write and communicate instructions
 Ability to negotiate difficult situations calmly and with respect
 Ability to deal with stressful situations occasionally, and be prepared to handle them at all times
 Ability to make quick decisions regarding emergency situations, traffic situations, and customer service situations.
 Ability to concentrate is a requirement to be able to drive safely, despite distractions including passenger conversations or questions, traffic, etc.
 Ability to concentrate on multiple tasks with frequent interruptions

Employment Screening
Valid Driver’s License and insured vehicle (100/300 minimum coverage) for use one the job or acceptable alternative, driving record check, criminal record check, randomized drug screening.
Head Start, Early Head Start, Childcare and Home Visiting Programs are also subject to the following: Head Start and child care licensing requires a criminal record check and finger printing to be completed prior to employment. An initial physical examination record, including a TB screening must be obtained within 60 days of hire, updated every three years, and kept on file with Human Resources. A TB screening indicates high risk; results of a TB test must be kept on file including any treatment received. An initial driving record check will be conducted. License information will also be submitted to the agency’s automobile insurance carrier.

This position is 16-hours a week.
