Program Director

Aviation Museum of NH

The Aviation Museum of N.H. is a non-profit organization with a two-part mission: to preserve and celebrate the history of flight in the Granite State and region; and also to inspire young people to become the aerospace pioneers and innovators of tomorrow. Located in the vintage 1937 passenger terminal at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, we stage exhibits augmented by a regular schedule of innovative programming; we also maintain a library and archive housing several thousand artifacts. Our education outreach includes a student plane-building partnership with a local high school, an online “Around the World Flight Adventure” remote learning program, and traditional museum tours and in-class visits. 

The Aviation Museum of N.H. seeks a full-time Program Director to assume range of day-to-day responsibilities, with a focus on educational outreach. Job includes planning and carrying out educational programs to augment STEM learning for students of all ages, in person and via remote learning, with a focus on middle and high school grades. You’ll lead tours and work with visiting groups as needed. Additional responsibilities include coordinating volunteer schedules and recruitment; managing front desk and gift shop personnel and procedures; maintaining membership records and processing renewals; working with accountant to process accounts payable/receivable; managing facility rentals/events; assist with museum’s social media, Web site, and communications channels; other projects and duties as assigned by Executive Director. The Program Director will work in concert with the Executive Director.

  • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year university, preferably in museum-related field.
  • Technology skills: familiarity with video, streaming media, web site management.
  • Proficient in standard MS Office software plus ‘PastPerfect’ museum software.
  • Numerical literacy, precision in writing, overall attention to detail.
  • A desire to work with the public and a team of experienced docents/volunteers.
  • A passion for aviation, flight, education, history, and interrelated fields.
  • A “can do” attitude in which a priority is placed on finding solutions through teamwork.
  • An ability to act as a community ambassador for the museum and its mission.  
  • Education outreach: Plan and organize in-person and distance educational programs.
  • Work with director to plan and implement remote learning programs via streaming video.
  • Coordinate educational and adult tours: booking, scheduling, leading if necessary.
  • Manage volunteer/docent scheduling, plus recruitment, training, and feedback.
  • Be on duty either Saturday or Sunday on weekends when museum is open to the public.
  • Manage front desk/gift store personnel/processes, to include training/recruitment.
  • Oversee gift store, to include merchandising, promotions, inventory, online sales.
  • Book and coordinate all museum rentals for outside clients.
  • Maintain membership records; process renewals, assist in membership campaigns.
  • Work with accountant to manage and process accounts payable/receivables.
  • Assist Executive Director with social media, Web site, other communication channels.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director on other projects and duties as assigned.
