Employment Specialist

Basic Function
Responsible for implementing existing, and developing new, services /supports to assist consumers impacted by Covid-19 issues in meeting their educational and employment needs. Provide work-readiness education and develops resources for consumers in our educational and adult employment service programs and cultivate and maintain relationships with school personnel, parents, business & community partners, and local resources to support students and adult consumer

• Facilitate trainings and service options for individuals directly impacted by COVID 19 to recover economically and to become competitive in the job market.
• Develop business sites and community partners for work experiences, community/business tours and training room presenters for students and as appropriate for adult consumers
• Provide follow- up services to students upon graduation of program
• Maintain relationship withal relevant funding sources
• Document required data and service activities for all assigned programs
• Work on a variety of marketing activities to recruit new students and adults for programs
• Deliver standardized curriculum to students including self-advocacy, career readiness, job development and independent living skills.
• Lead effort in identifying community resources to address issues due to Covid-19
• Support all consumers in identifying and utilizing community resources to increase their employment options and independent living skills.
• Support student and adult consumers to explore existing and alternative career, education and training and apprenticeship opportunities.
• Research how to access online training and certifications to increase employability of consumers
• Maintain high workplace expectations and a safe environment in training room where students feel welcomed and have a voice.
• Provide support to students in the training room, on their job sites and in credit recovery

Administrative Responsibilities
• Maintain accurate records for all assigned programs; complete end-of-session reports
• Provide monthly reports on student progress to schools, parents, and GSIL Leadership Team
• Provide reports on enrollment, school & business outreach, and overall progress to GSIL Follows up with high schools to ensure that ELOs are added to each student’s academic record
• As needed monitor billing, payments, and all documentation for Ticket to Work and ECSP
• Provide guidance on existing, new and changed requirements
• Support adult programs through involvement with regional, state and national organizations
• As needed provide training and program updates to staff in adult employment programs
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of rules/requirement in adult employment programs
• Leadership Team and students’ goals to IL Service Manager
• The ability to relate well with adolescents and adults
• Ability to see the best in all students and assist each in self-development
• Ability to multi-task in high-stress environments, be consistent in a flexing environment
• Comfort with 1:1 instruction as well as group presentations
• Knowledge of special education law, accommodations and modifications as related to IEPs and 504s preferred
• Able to participate effectively in regional, state and national groups in support of programs
• Google Suite including Google Classroom; Docs; Sheets; Slides; Forms and G-Mail

Other Responsibilities:
• Maintain professional knowledge/skills through trainings/workshops and other means
• Obtain and maintain required certifications/ clearances as required by the different programs
• Support and uphold workplace regulations and safety practices
• Conduct other duties as assigned that will increase options for persons with disabilities to live independently in their communities
• Participate in GSIL events and activities

• Excellent organizational skills • Working with database programs • Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other templates

• Experience working with individuals of all ages with disabilities. Knowledge of issues related to employment and independence for those with disabilities. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with adolescents, parents, staff, adult consumers and service providers. A bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or another related field, preferred. Ability to drive a 13-passenger vehicle.
• Experience in providing services leading to and supporting individuals with disabilities to obtain and maintain successful employment
• Must pass the SSA security clearance process

Physical /Mental Demands

Employee may occasionally need to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift carry, push or otherwise move objects (e.g. files or presentation materials). This position requires the ability to express or exchange ideas and to comprehend and present detailed and critical information.
